Welcome to c/news! We aim to foster a book-club type environment for discussion and critical analysis of the news. Our policy objectives are:
-
To learn about and discuss meaningful news, analysis and perspectives from around the world, with a focus on news outside the Anglosphere and beyond what is normally seen in corporate media (e.g. anti-imperialist, anti-Zionist, Marxist, Indigenous, LGBTQ, people of colour).
-
To encourage community members to contribute commentary and for others to thoughtfully engage with this material.
-
To support healthy and good faith discussion as comrades, sharpening our analytical skills and helping one another better understand geopolitics.
We ask community members to appreciate the uncertainty inherent in critical analysis of current events, the need to constantly learn, and take part in the community with humility. None of us are the One True Leftist, not even you, the reader.
Newcomm and Newsmega Rules:
The Hexbear Code of Conduct and Terms of Service apply here.
-
Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.
-
Content warnings: Posts on the newscomm and top-level replies on the newsmega should use content warnings appropriately. Please be thoughtful about wording and triggers when describing awful things in post titles.
-
Fake news: No fake news posts ever, including April 1st. Deliberate fake news posting is a bannable offense. If you mistakenly post fake news the mod team may ask you to delete/modify the post or we may delete it ourselves.
-
Link sources: All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include the Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance) or at least strip out identifier information from the twitter link. There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source.
-
Archive sites: We highly encourage use of non-paywalled archive sites (i.e. archive.is, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org) so that links are widely accessible to the community and so that reactionary sources don’t derive data/ad revenue from Hexbear users. If you see a link without an archive link, please archive it yourself and add it to the thread, ask the OP to fix it, or report to mods. Including text of articles in threads is welcome.
-
Low effort material: Avoid memes/jokes/shitposts in newscomm posts and top-level replies to the newsmega. This kind of content is OK in post replies and in newsmega sub-threads. We encourage the community to balance their contribution of low effort material with effort posts, links to real news/analysis, and meaningful engagement with material posted in the community.
-
American politics: Discussion and effort posts on the (potential) material impacts of American electoral politics is welcome, but the never-ending circus of American Politics© Brought to You by Mountain Dew™ is not welcome. This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.
-
Electoralism: Please try to avoid struggle sessions about the value of voting/taking part in the electoral system in the West. c/electoralism is right over there.
-
AI Slop: Don't post AI generated content. Posts about AI race/chip wars/data centers are fine.
Something smells off about this whole thing.
I'm sure Isreal would love a Reichstag moment. Cops were out doing vandalism during the George Floyd protests and everyone was blaming anti-fascists and BLM for it.
There is no reason for a march for hostages on Pearl Street except to antagonize people. I've seen them out there before with Israeli flags trying to piss people off. Boulder is extremely liberal, too.
I think it's revealing when the organizers said their event is not a protest. A protest is a political demonstration where the attendees shows disapproval of an entity which has power. Zionists have the full backing of the US government. Zionists are happy about the actions of the US government. Zionists are happy about the ongoing genocide in Gaza. Protests demonstrate for oppressed people, a demonstration for the oppressor is not a protest at all.
By admitting that their political action is not a protest, the participants admit that they support the genocide in Gaza and they admit that they are not being oppressed. They're not protesting, they're gloating.
When they talk about hostages, we all know they're bullshitting because they have this shit-eating grin like they know what they're doing and they feel untouchable. Crybully behavior, some of the worst people on Earth.
Well, it looks like they got more than they bargained for.
Chuds always say "FAFO" until it happens to them
Palestinians rule
I'm choosing to read it as
BLACKS
BULE
I saw a video of the perp on reddit and he seems like a basket case. Just the right kind of unhinged the fbi could wind up and set lose like a top.
'tear up texas'
uhhh 'immolate up Israelis'?
A reichstag moment to do what? What they’re already doing?
Long-term prison sentences for any pro-Palestinian protesters in the US under the Patriot Act. They are expelling students and deporting people, but the longest they've been able to sentence anyone is three years for felony vandalism, with most being around 30~90 days for maximum sentences.
They would prefer if it was decades or life sentences, and especially if it was without parole. Even better for the zionists if they could arrest people for statements said outside of protests. They could equate anti-zionism as no different than threatening to blow up a federal building.
It really doesn't seem off at all. Seems like something that would totally happen, actually.
Not specifically hexbear, but just Lemmy in general always spins off conspiracy theories for every single thing that happens, it seems like.
False flag operations have been used consistently in modern history to sway public opinion. To discredit the possibility as implausible is arguably just as outlandish as claiming X did Y without any evidence; especially when there is a clear vested interest in swaying public opinion on the Israeli genocide of Palestinians. (Online suppression of Gaza discussions. Media whitewashing of Israel crimes etc..)
To clarify; I'm not saying this was a false flag... I'm not really close enough to the subject to definitively say one way or another. And I definitely agree that tempers regarding the subject are incredibly high; so there's the possibility that this was a crime of passion rather than a false flag.
I'm just pointing towards the fact that human history is a good barometer for this sort of stuff; and False flag operations aren't exactly unheard of. Given Israel hasn't exactly shown itself to be the most humane nation recently; why wouldn't they use a historically effective technique?
here's my reasoning for why there's no reason to assume this is a false flag: i sometimes also would like to hurt zionists
Human behavior user talking about crimes of passion.
I think this is my first username checks out on Lemmy. :).
I agree; it's the same reason it's hard to state whether the trump shooter was or wasn't a plant... Because whilst the outcome definitely benefitted him, you can sympathise with what would lead someone to those extremes. But it's exactly that sort of public opinion about a group that makes false flags all that more desirable to them in the first place; It's a lot easier to gain support when seen as a victim.
Still, any sane person realises that throwing a Molotov is not equal to routinely bombing children's hospitals... But sanity left this topic a long time ago.
