Welcome to c/news! We aim to foster a book-club type environment for discussion and critical analysis of the news. Our policy objectives are:
-
To learn about and discuss meaningful news, analysis and perspectives from around the world, with a focus on news outside the Anglosphere and beyond what is normally seen in corporate media (e.g. anti-imperialist, anti-Zionist, Marxist, Indigenous, LGBTQ, people of colour).
-
To encourage community members to contribute commentary and for others to thoughtfully engage with this material.
-
To support healthy and good faith discussion as comrades, sharpening our analytical skills and helping one another better understand geopolitics.
We ask community members to appreciate the uncertainty inherent in critical analysis of current events, the need to constantly learn, and take part in the community with humility. None of us are the One True Leftist, not even you, the reader.
Newcomm and Newsmega Rules:
The Hexbear Code of Conduct and Terms of Service apply here.
-
Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.
-
Content warnings: Posts on the newscomm and top-level replies on the newsmega should use content warnings appropriately. Please be thoughtful about wording and triggers when describing awful things in post titles.
-
Fake news: No fake news posts ever, including April 1st. Deliberate fake news posting is a bannable offense. If you mistakenly post fake news the mod team may ask you to delete/modify the post or we may delete it ourselves.
-
Link sources: All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include the Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance) or at least strip out identifier information from the twitter link. There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source.
-
Archive sites: We highly encourage use of non-paywalled archive sites (i.e. archive.is, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org) so that links are widely accessible to the community and so that reactionary sources don’t derive data/ad revenue from Hexbear users. If you see a link without an archive link, please archive it yourself and add it to the thread, ask the OP to fix it, or report to mods. Including text of articles in threads is welcome.
-
Low effort material: Avoid memes/jokes/shitposts in newscomm posts and top-level replies to the newsmega. This kind of content is OK in post replies and in newsmega sub-threads. We encourage the community to balance their contribution of low effort material with effort posts, links to real news/analysis, and meaningful engagement with material posted in the community.
-
American politics: Discussion and effort posts on the (potential) material impacts of American electoral politics is welcome, but the never-ending circus of American Politics© Brought to You by Mountain Dew™ is not welcome. This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.
-
Electoralism: Please try to avoid struggle sessions about the value of voting/taking part in the electoral system in the West. c/electoralism is right over there.
-
AI Slop: Don't post AI generated content. Posts about AI race/chip wars/data centers are fine.
That tells me Socialists are on the menu. Some of these statistics are fascinating. How is Cuomo pulling so strongly in the African American demographic? How is Cuomo pulling ahead with women?
This poll was pre-AOC endorsement and debate so that could be some of it. Zohran is pulling these numbers with only 72% name recognition compared to Cuomo’s 97%, so that could also be a part of it
A race to watch for sure.
Idfk but I'm guessing there's a generational gap and it's older people who don't know shit supporting him
It’s eternal 2016.
The black populations that vote are highly entrenched in the Democratic patronage machine. They are machine democrats. They will always vote establishment. Did you not learn this in 2016 and 2020 when Bernie got crushed in the south for this reason?
No they are not dumb. They are entrenched in a political machine protecting their own interests. Also, most black people - like most people in general- do not vote at all. Those that do vote tend to be entrenched.
What’s your explanation for why black voting blocs overwhelmingly favor centrist establishment candidates? Biden crushed Bernie on Super Tuesday without even having to spend any time or money on the south, they just defaulted to the center. You really think the DNC rigged the vote?
Seems like you are just pissed that black people don’t vote progressive and are shooting the messenger instead of investigating why. Yes, of course, they actually are progressive and the entire primary process is rigged to the point of lying and changing millions of votes and I’m just a racist for analyzing why we lost.
I actually do think the 2020 primary may have been rigged, there were consistent anti-Bernie discrepancies in electronic voting machine districts

this is not meant as a rebuttal to the rest of your analysis, just throwing it in because you mentioned it
It was rigged in that all of the establishment forces conspired against Bernie and there was some shenanigans at the Iowa caucuses, it was not outright rigged in terms of faked votes on Super Tuesday all throughout the south
“Shenanigans” is putting it mildly. In 2016, Clinton won Iowa with 700 SDEs to Sanders’s 697. And then in 2020, Buttigieg won with 563 to Sanders’s 562. Democrats torched the Iowa caucuses forever to stop him. I’m not arguing for legitimacy of the above source, but you need only look to the extreme examples of blatant ratfuckery. From tossed ballots, polls closing early, and to the single polling location for college towns in Michigan. Clinton couldn’t win every county in MI in ‘08 with only her on the ballot, but Biden did in ‘20 even though Bernie won several major cities. I agree that the Dems overdid that one.
The DNC argued in court that’s it’s their right to pick the nominee no matter what. It should be a lesson to leftists that all liberals, even the most ☝️🤓 for rules, fairness, and traditions, will tear everything down and stop at nothing to combat the remotest of existential threats.
There's data showing black Democrats self-identifying as moderate much more than white or Hispanic democrats, so a break for Cuomo makes sense on an ideological level
