The fact that this meatball head r*pist isn't behind bars is all the evidence you need that metoo is dead and buried thanks to democrats.

You’re really going to lock up a 68 years young italianx man just like that? It’s part of his culture

I genuinely do not understand the bonus of “Name recognition” in American politics

If I only recognize the name of one person in a race, 95% of the time it’s because of bad things! Yeah I know who Andrew Cuomo is, he’s the guy who got fired for sexual harassment and killed thousands of grandparents!

If he’s the only name I recognize I’m choosing other people at random and ranking him last!

Cuomo is ShitFlakes.

The average American reads at below a sixth grade level and Americans aren't exactly known for being readers. Americans tend to vote in a similar way to how they buy cereal. Imagine ShitFlakes has a heavy ad buy in Joe Blow's region around NYC. At the supermarket Joe gets to the cereal aisle and his hand reaches for ShitFlakes. He only sort of realizes he's about to put that overpriced garbage into his cart because of very large number of times he's seen it on his screens.

Joe is middle aged, lived in NYC his whole life, and he loves CNN. He's literally heard or seen the name Cuomo more than 10,000 times because it's not only the surname of the ShitFlakes governor but also Mario Cuomo and Chris Cuomo too.

[-] CoolerOpposide@hexbear.net 38 points 2 days ago

It is stupid but unfortunately here a lot of people will remember Cuomo shitting on Trump during Covid and not that he killed old people or is a serial harasser.

[-] ClimateStalin@hexbear.net 38 points 2 days ago

That’s baffling to me. I don’t remember his roasts at all, I mostly remember why he’s no longer the governor and is able to run for mayor

Part of the problem is that people who don't like him are ranking him at all, even last. You don't have to rank a candidate for NY mayor if you don't want them as mayor.

[-] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 14 points 2 days ago

I forgot to mention - Cuomo will have some support from notable shit stain dems because they hate even the idea of a socialist getting close to power - https://hexbear.net/post/5213882

[-] Chana@hexbear.net 14 points 2 days ago

American elections are generally run on PR and marketing. That's what they use the money for, to buy ads and shit, and they put a lot of emphasis on optics.

The political climbers who do the PR work jump at the chance for a candidate that already has "name recognition" because they don't need to spend PR and marketing budget on making peolle aware of the candidate's existence or what they are about. With Cuomo they already have the basics: white guy Democrat that has already been governor. They can now spend their big budget on fixing his many PR problems, which is probably correctly perceived as less difficult than making voters aware of a new candidate.

Every time I've felt even remotely hopeful for a us politician, they've turned out to be a liberal or a toothless social democrat

But I have revolutionary optimism and hope I'll see a socialist ny mayor

[-] CoolerOpposide@hexbear.net 19 points 2 days ago

In our lifetime we will see many socialist mayors, comrade Care-Comrade

[-] RedWizard@hexbear.net 47 points 2 days ago

That tells me Socialists are on the menu. Some of these statistics are fascinating. How is Cuomo pulling so strongly in the African American demographic? How is Cuomo pulling ahead with women?

[-] CoolerOpposide@hexbear.net 35 points 2 days ago

This poll was pre-AOC endorsement and debate so that could be some of it. Zohran is pulling these numbers with only 72% name recognition compared to Cuomo’s 97%, so that could also be a part of it

[-] RedWizard@hexbear.net 21 points 2 days ago

A race to watch for sure.

[-] Z_Poster365@hexbear.net 19 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

It’s eternal 2016.

The black populations that vote are highly entrenched in the Democratic patronage machine. They are machine democrats. They will always vote establishment. Did you not learn this in 2016 and 2020 when Bernie got crushed in the south for this reason?

How is Cuomo pulling so strongly in the African American demographic?

Idfk but I'm guessing there's a generational gap and it's older people who don't know shit supporting him

[-] RION@hexbear.net 12 points 2 days ago

There's data showing black Democrats self-identifying as moderate much more than white or Hispanic democrats, so a break for Cuomo makes sense on an ideological level

[-] RaisedFistJoker@hexbear.net 27 points 2 days ago

this time the socdem will do good by the people for sure

He said he believes Israel has a right to exist and defend itself, but at least he won’t visit Israel seven times and suck the wailing wall off like the other candidates I guess

He really shouldn’t have caved and just responded with “I don’t believe the mayor of a city should be taking geopolitical diplomatic actions outside of the country” or something and reframed the issue

[-] dead@hexbear.net 21 points 2 days ago

As far as I can tell, he has not said "Israel has a right to defend itself". Zohran said that Israel has the right to exist as a non-Jewish state. He told the Mayoral debate and some news networks that Israel can exist only if it is not a Jewish ethnostate. I don't even think that his answer was good, but he may have been trying to say that he wants a 1-state solution with a secular state.

Israel does not have a right to exist. The correct answer is "Israel does not have a right to exist".

What I think is more important is that he says that he supports the BDS movement and he implied that his support of BDS will impact his decision making as Mayor. Support for BDS is much better than most US politicians. Over 30 states have laws against BDS. Support for BDS is huge.

I got 2 (two) pieces of anti-zohran, pro-cuomo, mail when I checked today. They're playing Zohran up as a scary risk and Cuomo as the safe, experienced, candidate.

According to the fine print, one of them was from "Fix the City, Inc", where DoorDash is a top donor. Gross.

[-] merthyr1831@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 day ago

not to get racial with it but lmao at the left wing guy being carried by white people for once. amazing things going on in da big apple

[-] eldavi@lemmy.ml 31 points 2 days ago

this poll makes me wonder if there any sizeable districts/jurisdictions where leftists can win within this country.

NYC Seattle Chicago Portland LA

Have all been shown to be fertile for left of liberal political victories. My understanding is that the Nevada DNC also has progressive leadership, so waiting to see if they can push for some wins on their end now that they have some power

[-] regul@hexbear.net 27 points 2 days ago

Portland is iffy. Right now 4/12 city councillors are DSA members, but by no means revolutionary in their politics. They are slightly better than average libs. Portland's DA was a progressive but got turfed out for a Republican "tough on crime" guy. Former progressive city council members have been literally framed by the police or just faced massive smear campaigns. The mayor is a trucking company CEO who's trying to give extra money to the shitty police department that they didn't even ask for while at the same time cutting the parks budget.

[-] spectre@hexbear.net 21 points 2 days ago

Like I said about Seattle, it's more that they can win, not that they are well organized and doing a good job today (that would be the next step).

Seattle

It's been trending social fascist post-COVID, probably in part due to the CHOP/CHAZ kerfuffle. The head of the city council is a small business beer tyrant, the city attorney is a party-switching republican, and the mayor makes Gavin Newsom look like the patron saint of the unhoused. Socialist councilmember Kshama Sawant left to work on caste discrimination, so the council tends to bend to whatever the business lobbies are pushing.

[-] spectre@hexbear.net 15 points 2 days ago

I guess my main point was that Sawant can indeed win on a socialist platform. Not that everything is set to go today.

[-] BodyBySisyphus@hexbear.net 13 points 2 days ago

My point was meant to be that Sawant did indeed win in the past, but I think if she were to run today it would be harder. Momentum seems to be on the side of the right at the moment.

Honestly, if left of liberal politicians got into power in a state's party democrat apparatus, they'd probably win just due to inertia (provided they aren't sabotaged like the NV dems were, obviously). Chuds will call them communists, but they've been doing that for decades so I have to imagine it doesn't work on the average person anymore.
