they cant march at all lmao

[-] ComradeKingfisher@hexbear.net 66 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Yup. Drill and Ceremony isn't really practiced once you get to your unit. It's widely viewed as a silly waste of time. For change of command ceremonies we would get like two or three days of practice, and most of that was standing around in the heat praying someone locks their knees and passes out. Judging from r/army posts, a lot of guys had just the three days of practice. Add in how no one wants to be at a dog and pony show, and you get very sloppy marching. Sucks2suck tbh, they deserve worse.

[-] Dessa@hexbear.net 9 points 2 days ago

Why, what happens when someone locks their knees and passes out?

[-] ComradeKingfisher@hexbear.net 15 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

It's entertainment. It never stops being funny. It's slapstick comedy that briefly breaks the monotony of hours of standing at attention or parade rest while the colonels and generals practice fellating themselves. Sometimes they fall face first. Sometimes they fall on the person in front or behind them and we get to see two people knocked on their ass. Sometimes they crumple straight to the ground. And after they pass out, we get to see medics scramble to drag their ass to the aid station. We struggle to hold laughter in. Then the fun is over and we're back to fantasizing about the stage collapsing during the speeches.

I always liked that picture of someone in the British Army collapsing, and everyone else just stands there.

[-] Crucible@hexbear.net 60 points 2 days ago

They're going to lose their minds saying that marching is gay DEI so of course they can't do it

[-] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 44 points 2 days ago

You know if we march in sync that's ga— I mean, woke.

[-] SpiderFarmer@hexbear.net 37 points 2 days ago

What if we marched together. Just kidding, unless. powercry-1

[-] NephewAlphaBravo@hexbear.net 25 points 2 days ago

choreography is something Theater Folk do

[-] HowAbt2day@futurology.today 10 points 2 days ago

You mean synchronized gaying?

[-] jackmaoist@hexbear.net 39 points 2 days ago

trump-drenched should fire all of them for this kind of pathetic display

[-] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 40 points 2 days ago

they march like they don't want to be there

[-] SteamedHamberder@hexbear.net 38 points 2 days ago

80 degrees with a dew point of 75

[-] ChestRockwell@hexbear.net 29 points 2 days ago

Maximum swamp ass conditions.

They're drinking their air.

[-] Owl@hexbear.net 21 points 2 days ago

Damn, I thought Trump was supposed to have drained that thing.

[-] NephewAlphaBravo@hexbear.net 22 points 2 days ago

[-] Assian_Candor@hexbear.net 41 points 2 days ago

The beta slouch walk vs the alpha juche goose step

[-] VILenin@hexbear.net 26 points 2 days ago

Worse than the fucking boy scouts lmao

[-] Frivolous_Beatnik@hexbear.net 21 points 2 days ago

[-] Keld@hexbear.net 15 points 2 days ago

I don't actually think that the PLA being parade trained is a point in their favor tbh. It's silly no matter who does it.

[-] Assian_Candor@hexbear.net 27 points 2 days ago

The point is if you can't maintain order and discipline marching down a fucking street in front of the president as a ceremonial projection of power how the fuck are you going to maintain order and discipline when you're on a forced march in enemy territory with interrupted supplies

Like if the soldiers look like shit because "they don't want to be there" imagine how they're gonna look when they're sent out on patrol from an FOB and every third run results in an IED casualty. You think they're going to want to be there?

It frankly doesn't fucking matter where they want to be what matters is where they're ordered to be. This lack of discipline is an indictment of the soldiers but most of all the officers

Total disaster, no wonder these fucking bums got fucked up by goat herders despite being armed with the pinnacle of military technology.

Disaster

Timing and precision seem important skills, imo.

[-] Keld@hexbear.net 4 points 2 days ago

Do you look at the pop and lock choreography of the Arlington cemetery ritual or the parades of the life guards of small European monarchies and think "Yup, those are transferable skill to the battlefield"?

[-] bdonvr@thelemmy.club 4 points 1 day ago

Yeah but those are like two dudes.

There's something to be said about being able to do something like that en masse - it shows a healthy training and organizational structure with discipline and morale, even if the sync-marching isn't necessarily an important skill.

[-] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 5 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

the parades of the life guards of small European monarchies and think "Yup, those are transferable skill to the battlefield"?

Look at how rarely European monarchs get assassinated these days though, it must be doing something

[-] Maeve@kbin.earth 1 points 2 days ago

I look at replies that don't care until they do.

[-] Frivolous_Beatnik@hexbear.net 11 points 2 days ago

Military parades can be cool and good IMO. The organization is very satisfying

[-] Keld@hexbear.net 18 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Your opinion is not the same as mine and is therefore ontologically wrong.

spoilerI'm just being silly. I don't actually care enough about this subject to make a deal about it.

[-] Z_Poster365@hexbear.net 4 points 2 days ago

It's not silly it's literally the coolest thing ever

[-] invo_rt@hexbear.net 14 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Hell March

Frank Klepacki one of the GOATs. RTS doesn't feel the same without the weird, industrofunk metal blasting.

He's still got it.

[-] GrouchyGrouse@hexbear.net 10 points 2 days ago

I fuckin love him for going back and not just remastering but fully re-recording his classic 90s tracks. It was such a wonderful surprise when I saw they were remastering the games.

[-] invo_rt@hexbear.net 8 points 2 days ago

Oh for sure. Pretty sure he just likes doing it since I believe he did some original music for the Twisted Insurrection and Mental Omega mods for RA2. I still blast all the old C&C OSTs when I'm playing any RTS to this day.
