I don't think it looks that bad for him honestly? He's not like disheveled, and the Anger Stare isn't the worst kind of thing to project to his followers.

Agreed, he doesn’t want to smile as if saying “don’t worry guys, I’ll be fine!” because that only admits that he is not in charge and has to hope for the best outcome. He wants his supporters to directly attack the process and not passively hope.
Trump basically never smiles, except some rare instances for staged official photos.
He also never laughs. He was raised to believe that doing either would show weakness.

my partner's bird fucking laughs -- he knows it's something people do when someone says something funny so he laughs to be part of the conversation. how do you manage to miss something so core to being human that a fucking bird picked up on it?? I know narcissism is borne out of trauma but it never fails to blow my mind. laughter is so deeply human that it's one of a small number of gestures that transcends all languages. even chimpanzees laugh.
