Given he founded it no wonder they treated being gay as a mental illness and often still do for trans people.

James was more of a psychologist and along with Wundt founded the current field of psychology.
Either way, Freud's not it
Freud did invent (or popularize) the core principle of psychotherapy: "everything is your parents' fault".
gender dysphoria is listed in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM). it doesn't mean it's bad. its just classified that way.
but yeah this dude had quite a few screws loose himself.
