, I have somewhat mixed feelings about the ongoing militarization in European countries.
As long as Germany doesn't have a real military, it will only ever be a vassal state of the US. The same goes for all EU states. Do I think Germany or the UK for that matter will use their militaries to liberate themselves from US control and end Western hegemony? Absolutely not, they will probably do fascism. But I still think it's a prerequisite to end the imperial core as we know it.
What's important is to examine how they're preparing their military. Are they building their own weapons and hardware, or are they just buying US-made? Sovereignty isn't something that can be bought, they need the industrial capacity to actually build a war.
There's some of that, but a lot of their plans seem to just involve increased purchases.

Cool. As a European myself witnessing the death of the western empire, we should be cheering for that. Less militarization means less likelihood of Europe turning to Africa Colonialism 2 Electric Boogaloo while it still has the upper hand. In 5 years all of the EU will be ruled by far right parties, the weaker the state repression apparatus (including military) the better for everyone.
They are not militarizing to fight the US lol.
Germany really has only two options left: keep being dependent on the US for energy, or invade Russia and steal their resources.
The green energy transition plan is being killed by China’s much superior renewable tech, and if Europe opens up to China, their domestic economy is going to be even deader than dead. This makes them even more reliant on the US consumer market.
So, they are militarizing to conquer Russia to gain independence from the US, since the economic cooperation route has been denied (the US bombing Nord Stream). The exact same shit that happened 90 years ago.

Nothing obnoxious about it. Please tell me how Germany’s rebuilding of its military capability can stop itself from being a US vassal?
The US is not militarily invading Germany anytime soon, nor is Germany capable of reaching the US across the Atlantic anytime soon. The US exerts its influence over Germany by manipulating its ability to access energy, resources and global market through restricting trade and sanctions with other countries.
For example, the Ukraine war killed Nord Stream. Trump’s tariffs forced China to dump cheap EVs and solar panels on to the EU, which is killing the European green tech industries.
Germany’s militarization is driven by its neoliberal ideology (that its economy has to be driven by a trade surplus export strategy). And because Germany needs to run a trade surplus under such constraints, it will have no choice but to steal resources from the other countries, hence all the war rhetoric against Russia.
This was exactly what led to the rise of Nazi Germany back in the 1930s. The US simply demanded its war debt repayment from the Allied powers, which far exceeded their capacity to repay at the time, so they turned to the defeated Germany to squeeze even more out of them to service their debt. In response, Germany militarized and invaded Europe and Russia. The entire predicament was dictated by global capital. The same happens today.

I'll only trust European militarization if they buy Russian/Chinese/Iranian weapons. If they're making their own weapons, they'll probably just pick on some Global South country or think they stand a chance against Russia/China/Iran.
Poland is buying tons of weapons from occupied Korea, and while i'm sure a lot of bribery decided this, Polish high military brass are still somewhat shocked that Koreans are delivering real working equipment and keeping the deal instead of junk and lies Poland got from USA every time.
That would be the Switzerland mountain fortress strategy, stay "neutral" while maintaining a massive military, I guess. At least a strong military gives you the option to be neutral between power-blocks? Thats the only positive one might see in this.
