The TV formula so often seen in sitcoms of a stupid or inept (but often well meaning) man married to a super woman who can solve all of his problems for him by the end of the episode is so common it is almost a cliche.

It's always the sitcom dad, I'm begging you to come up with a second example.

It's funny because as a kid my AFAB ass was always like "Why is it in sitcoms that the Dad is always the main character and gets to be the funny one? Why is the wife always boring and having to do all the work and be the bad guy in most situations?"

I remember Everybody Loves Raymond as a show where the wife was treated as a nagging buzzkill even though she had valid concerns. Haven't seen an episode in over 20 years, so I could be misremembering something.

I watched Everybody Loves Raymond with my mom when I was young and she told me every single character in it is demonstrating some fatal character flaw, and these people are models of how not to be.

Raymond is an insecure people pleasure who bends to everyone's whims and lies pathologically because eh wants people to like him more then he wants to have a spine or principles.

Robert is a cop (and deeply insecure)

Marie is overbearing, manipulative, and doesn't respect anyone's boundaries.

Frank is a caustic asshole who can't let his guard down and just be kind yo the people he loves.

Debra is a pushover who puts up with these other assholes who make her miserable instead of just saying "y'all are pathetic, I'm getting a divorce from your entire family". Yes she complains and tries go be the voice of reason, and that's good, but she never succeeds because it would be impossible for her to fix these people

All the women in that show were portrayed like that, it was that show's main theme.

I'm not saying that Peg Bundy was a major factor in my gender transition, but I'm not not saying that either

I'd let her peg me for sure.

Peg Bundy and Ripley from Aliens were my first tv crushes.

Ummm what about “goofy ass dad in an advert who can’t do laundry until the wife brings the special cleaning product only she knows how to buy”?

[-] UmmmCheckPlease@hexbear.net 8 points 3 days ago

I forget what the show was because it sucked, but I liked the premise, basically for the guy it was a sitcom where he’s doing whacky shenanigans and causing mayhem; and for his wife it’s a drama where she’s trying to find someone to murder him lol. Still love that premise. But yeah it was not good

Yeah, I remember that show, it was called Kevin Can F**k Himself.

That’s the one!
