Yeah, no, thats not only bullshit but also homophobic bullshit. They don't have to be 'secretly gay' to be homophobic.
They will oppress whoever they need to divide and conquer. Queer people are an easy target.
While you're right to say that's homophobic to assume, a suspicious number of anti gay Republicans and clergy have ended up outed. So it's also not an unreasonable bet.
