Just want to take a second and say thank God I had Warcraft 3 instead of Roblox growing up.
Thank god I had nintendo ds and minecraft. No child scamming micro transactions there
There was a period in Minecraft where predatory mtx were going as hard as they do in Roblox
Wait, how does minecraft have mtx?
People set up private servers and then sell use of admin commands or mods for real money. Stuff like 100 diamonds spawned in for $5. If course mods make it more seamless by implementing currency systems directly into the game, but the basic premise is selling in game power for real money. It's extremely popular to do this in other games like Rust and Ark as well
The individual servers used to be able to have their own mtx
My kids still have a Nintendo DS and Minecraft. It was the last handheld to not be designed from the ground up for internet connectivity.
But what about the PictoChat predators??
Work work.
Work is da poop, NO MORE!
Off I go then!
One of the best things my parents did was not let me play video games.
I like video games myself but honestly think I probably won’t let my kids play them (and won’t myself then either of course) or at least until they would be like 10. I don’t see any good coming out of that. Same thing with television to be honest
Kids can have a little video games as a treat.
I think if I have kids I'm gonna break out the old consoles in order, so that they have an appreciation for the history and because it'll probably be a self-limiting hobby due to looking like shit compared to anything on a phone
I think that the console issue might be that if you aren’t used to the newer stuff then it still seems great. Even with the 2600, you can play for a very long time and enjoy it. Definitely not as addictive for people as the modern gambling games played by a lot of kids
Up until the early-mid 90s there were the lingering effects of arcade-oriented design where shit was super hard to get your quarters, but yeah even that's not so bad compared to the newer shit that takes your quarters digitally.
