It’s not even hypocrisy in the truest sense, it’s more the unspoken rule baked into the cultural conservative system that the restrictive, repressive culture practices and limitations are for the plebs. Like everything else, it’s about hierarchies for them, so debauchery is only something you earn if you’re high enough on the org chart.
Morality determined by social position rather than actions.
They need to find a way to be more nonchalantly decadent then each other and once you have enough cash to bath in Möet and Alizé everyday, what else is there?
good analysis, part of why calling out hypocrisy doesn't work because it just enforces the subtextual hierarchy in their minds
