I love Jon/MATN so much, watching his Fallout 4 YOLO as I do my own survival mode playthrough. This is a very icky juxtaposition
The Fallout 3 rarities series he did recently was great
Once I got used to the routine of packing for a mission, balancing supplies vs scavenging space, deciding on every round of ammo and ounce of weight, making tactical plans to clear locations...I found I just couldnt go back to playng regular haha cool robot mode.
I liked that lack of fast travel meant that bringing power armor up to where I would need it became it's own mission, like I was transporting a tank to the front. Just not being able to teleport, quicksave, or carry 400 pounds and having to get around and survive like a real person made me care so much more about the playthrough, and made every sucessful mission and built up settlement feel more real and hard-earned.
It certainly makes the shooting, looting, and building elements more harmonious.
No fast travel is a bit too tedious for me though. I got a mod the enables fast travel between settlements connected by a supply line which encourages strategic settlement use even further
