Yea sure, Indonesia has done fucked up things since independence (in part thanks to the American Empire) and yes Indonesia's current day policy in Papua is not great but calling Indonesia an empire is ridiculous, it doesn't want to colonize distant lands.

No, they gained independence and tried to build a non-aligned movement and then the U.S. orchestrated a mass murder campaign (whitewashed by the imperialist powers) through the military and turned it into a gangster dictatorship (ignoring prior disinfo campaigns, CIA bombings). It is not “in part” thanks to the American empire, since the U.S.‘s cover-up of the invasion of East Timor was only due to the reactionist anti-communist position of the nation under Suharto, which only came into play due to the final success of Western regime change.
