In one word: politics.

More words from here:

Domain-level play is an old term for giving RPG characters political power in the form of ”domains” they control, be those guilds, corporations, or part or all of a sovereign nation. Historically, Dungeons and Dragons campaigns would eventually see the characters having enough wealth and influence to purchase a stronghold, which would give them not only a base of operations but also a parcel of land to see over. Once the characters were officially nobles in this way, a whole new area of storylines could open up, involving courtly intrigue as well as broader politics. At a default level this would insert characters onto a bigger political stage, but it was both possible and for some palatable to start changing the course of politics in the world in which the game took place.

if you’re looking for a higher level, beer and pretzels dungeon for Shadowdark, I’d look no further than Chateau Amongst the Stars.

I only watched parts of the Critical Role stuff but I believe they never released a session zero?

Also, Daggerheart is newly released so it might be interesting just because of that.

Sadly, I just found out that it has ceased publication just shy of its 50th anniversary, and over 590 monthly issues.

Alarums & Excursions was one of the longest running, if not the longest running APAs ever. It won numerous "best amateur magazine" awards, especially in the 80s and 90s, including being inducted into the Origins Hall of Fame in 2022.

Is this still "RPG"?

There was no Tariff ‘exception’ announced on Friday,” he said

Feels like we are close to “We have always been at war with Eurasia.”

Why should it be a bot? It could be a feature built into Lemmy itself.

You could request it here: https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/issues

Automotive developers successfully switched from barely-knowing-C to barely-knowing-C++. Surely, they will be equally successful in switching to barely-knowing-Rust.

Ich sehe da da gutgemeinte Ironie aber für Wahlwerbung ist das zu subtil.

There seems to be a lot of attention on WotC actions, so I guess people are concerned that it might work to turn D&D in this dreaded "lifestyle brand?" Statements like the "it won't work" in the title serve to convince yourself then.

I don't care about WotC. There is no threat to anything I'm playing. If they destroy the D&D brand, so be it.

Could it still affect me negatively? Maybe indirectly. If D&D blows up, then RPG community probably shrinks and fewer people join. The most popular game is the entry game for many after all. So it will hurt the many small indie creatives too. Maybe there will be a painful correction. On the other hand, it probably results in a more healthy and resilient community afterwards. Still, I would feel sorry for the people who live on a small RPG business now which might not survive a D&D implosion.
