Genuine question for all of my newsheads in here: Do we think Russia alerted any other nuclear powers that they were launching ICBMs? They claim they didn’t and that the hotline with the U.S. to deescalate has not been in use.

Becayse if not holy shit we were closer to nuclear apocalypse last night than the Cuban Missile Crisis by a wide margin.

If he is still living in Florida and the U.S. doesn’t extradite him this could be a U.S. foreign policy flop week bigger than many in recent memory.

• Greenlight Ukraine strikes into Russian territory

• Give Ukraine anti-personnel landmines

• Recognize the loser of the Venezuelan election as official President-elect

• Veto otherwise unanimous draft resolution for immediate ceasefire in Palestine and release of all hostages

• Russia uses ICBMS on Ukraine

• (Potentially) refuse to extradite Bolsonaro

In front of you, a door. Behind this door is a courtroom, and a man facing trial. His name? Remigijus Žemaitaitis, the leader of the far-right political party ‘Dawn of Nemunas.’ Mr. Žemaitaitis has recently entered into a coalition government led the by the socdem party.

What makes this man so special? Well, that is where tonight’s horror begins. Remigijus Žemaitaitis, leader of the ‘Dawn of Nemunas,’ is on trial for a crime we can all agree is most foul: the crime of antisemitism. The catch? Mr. Žemaitaitis Is on trial in the country of Lithuania. You may be asking yourself how you are supposed to believe such a blatantly fabricated story. After all, a man on trial for antisemitism in the Baltics is rather unbelievable.

However, there is no need to suspend your belief, because tonight’s defendant is very much real. Behind this door Mr. Žemaitaitis faces trial; a man too antisemitic for even Lithuania. This evening, I offer you the key to this door to find out more.

Take the key. 🗝️Welcome to the Twilight Zone.

Don't take the key.You thought you had the choice? Welcome to the Twilight Zone. 🗝️

Truly some top tier Baltic level stuff coming out of Lithuania right now. You know it must be fairly serious when you are on trial for antisemitism in LITHUANIA. Well let’s just do a little bit of research on the leader of the NA, Remigijus Žemaitaitis. First I’ll check his wikiped– oh…

You know it’s gonna be bad when the first sentence of your intro paragraph on Wikipedia page mentions you being known for your antisemitism. I can’t help myself. I have to check what he’s been saying that’s so controversial.

TW actual antisemitism

pooh-wtf

[this is a well-known Lithuanian anti-Semitic rhyme].

what-the-hell Of course it is! And of course Lithuania has a well known antisemitic rhyme!

Hm actually I don’t need to read his other quotes. Read more about the antisemitism trial he is currently on here. (warning: his quotes are here and contain obvious and aggressive antisemitism)

Chanting protests against a country? I’m sweaty, that’s actually a slur 💅

Protest an entire ethnic group and chant hate speech? Well that’s just a slogan I don’t see why you’d be so upset.

Literally us-foreign-policy

Yeni Kostantiniyye, 1603 — Beylerbey Eriq Pasha al-Adm of Yeni Kostantiniyye has been implicated in a scandal involving the acceptance of bribes from Venetian merchants, sources close to the imperial court confirm.

According to palace officials, Eriq Pasha al-Adm, the prominent Beylerbey of Yeni Kostantiniyye, is accused of secretly accepting lavish tribute from Venetian traders based out of İskenderiye. These merchants, renowned for operation of their silk and spice routes, have connections to many other influential viziers, from whom they also allegedly sought favorable trade routes and contracts. Among the reported tributes Eriq Pasha accepted were: exquisite meals, visits with the Doge, and several shiploads of ducats while campaigning, some of which appear to have been siphoned from the Sultan’s coffers. Eriq Pasha and his envoys were granted freedom of transit through Venetian territory and waters, and priority access to port and accommodation facilities. In exchange for the Venetian generosity, Eriq Pasha allegedly hosted several Venetian envoys in Yeni Kostantiniyye, allowing the merchants to gain a competitive advantage in the bazaar by skirting import taxes. Additionally, the local Venetian embassy and trading guild were granted exemption from building code guidelines.

Viziers have been abuzz with rumors regarding Eriq Pasha for many years. Prior to his promotion to Beylerbey, eyewitnesses claim to have seen Venetian envoys entering al-Adm’s estate several times with supplies over the past several years, using his position as Agha of the Janissaries to gain undue influence in the Sultan’s court. “The supplies were not for the Janissaries, but for al-Adm himself,” said one eunuch, who requested anonymity due to the sensitivity of the case.

The timing of these allegations are interesting in light of the Sultan recently granting Eriq al-Adm the title of Pasha, particularly due to his reputation as one who is supposed to fight corruption and uphold the law. Despite his assurance that he’d sponsor several grand public works projects and make sweeping efforts to improve the lives of commoners, Eriq Pasha’s tenure as Beylerbey has been mired in stagnancy and broken promises. Though widely unpopular amongst the commoners of the Yeni Kostantiniyye province due to his diversion of public works funding to the Janissaries, many of those adjacent to the royal court had seen Eriq Pasha as a future vizier, or even in line for a grander role in the Sultan’s Divan.

Eriq Pasha has been summoned to the Sublime Porte to answer for these accusations. There, he is expected to face tribunal, which holds the power to strip him of his lands and title as Beylerbey. Meanwhile, Eriq Pasha has vehemently denied all charges. In a statement issued from al-Adm’s administration, the accusations are called “baseless” and “the work of jealous pretenders who seek to undermine Eriq Pasha’s service to the empire while elevating their own.” Eriq Pasha’s administration insists that all dealings with the Most Serene Republic of Venice and its mercantile guilds were in full compliance with imperial order.
