Image is of the damage caused by an Iranian Kheibar Shekan ballistic missile in Israel, causing dozens of injuries.

Now in our second week of the conflict, we have seen continuing damage to both Israel and Iran, as well as direct US intervention which nonetheless seems to have caused limited damage to Fordow and little damage to Iran's nuclear program. Regime change seems more elusive than ever, as even Iranians previously critical of the government now rally around it as they are attacked by two rabid imperialists at once. And Iran's government is tentatively considering a withdrawal, or at minimum a reconsideration, of their membership to the IAEA and the NPT. And, of course, the Strait of Hormuz is still a tool in their arsenal.

A day or so on from the strike on Fordow, we have so far seen basically no change in strategy from the Iranian military as they continue to strike Israel with small barrages of missiles. Military analysts argue furiously - is this a deliberate strategy of steady attrition on Israel, or indicative of immense material constraints on Iran? Are the hits by Israel on real targets, or are they decoys? Does Iran wish to develop a nuke, or are they still hesitating? Will Iran and Yemen strike at US warships and bases in response to the attack, or will they merely continue striking only Israel?

And perhaps most importantly - will this conflict end diplomatically due to a lack of appetite for an extended war (to wit: not a peace but a 20 year armistice) or with Israel forced into major concessions including an end to their genocide? Or even with a total military/societal collapse of either side?

From the Cradle, Harvard study finds Israel ‘disappeared’ nearly 400,000 Palestinians in Gaza, half of them children: Report

A new report published by the Harvard database reveals that Israel has “disappeared” at least 377,000 Palestinians since the start of its genocidal campaign against the Gaza Strip in 2023.

Half of this number is believed to be Palestinian children.

The report was written by Israeli professor Yaakov Garb, who used data-driven analysis and spatial mapping to show how the Israeli army’s siege of Gaza and indiscriminate attacks on civilians in the enclave have led to a serious drop in its population.

The 377,000 Palestinians who are unaccounted for due to Israel’s genocide are approximately 17 percent of the Gaza Strip’s entire population, which now stands at about 1.85 million. Prior to the war in Gaza, the strip’s population was estimated at 2.227 million.

That is going beyond even Soviet losses in WWII, in terms of percentage of total population.

It's just pure evil.

The most shocking thing here is Mark Rutte on a first name basis with Trump, calling my "dear Donald" is just so jarring. Amazing shit. "Europe is going to pay in a BIG way" is such a vassal state phrase to say.

NYT

Most communications between world leaders are considered private — unless President Trump sees some advantage to making it public. Which is what apparently just happened: Mr. Trump posted, on Truth Social, what he portrayed as a signal message from Mark Rutte, the secretary general of NATO, praising him for striking the Iranian nuclear sites.

“Congratulations and thank you for your decisive action in Iran,’’ the message read. Rutte called it “truly extraordinary and something no one else dared to do.” NATO confirmed that the message was genuine.

Looks like Israel have responded by launching a symbolic airstrike targeting a radar in Tehran.

[-] aanes_appreciator@hexbear.net 2 points 3 minutes ago

Symbolic and Radar wouldn't be in the same sentence regarding any other conflict except the one where the defender's aerial defences were totally kaput on day one

I just woke up and I'm watching an angry Trump on MSNBC. And he says he's "not happy" with Iran and Israel. He also said they don't know "What the fuck they're doing." And "fuck" wasn't even beeped out. What's going on!

[-] MarmiteLover123@hexbear.net 34 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

Okay I've tried to figure it out. This is what I guess happened.

Israel decided to do their "kill hundreds of people and bomb as much as possible before the ceasefire starts, up until the last second" move, but they ended up bombing for exactly half an hour longer than they should have, maybe because Iran uses a weird timezone (+3:30 UTC I think).

Iran's foreign minister put out what appears to be two pre written tweets announcing a ceasefire without using the word ceasefire, but because Israel violated the ceasefire by half an hour, parts of the army or IRGC continued lobbing missiles at Israel to respond to this ceasefire violation. There could also be a split here, with some parts wanting to continue fighting Israel, or a communication breakdown, considering that there are reports that electronic communications are minimised to avoid Israel tracking them down.

Israel has vowed to respond to this by bombing Tehran.

That's where we are now.

[-] Parzivus@hexbear.net 29 points 1 hour ago

Israel does this shit of bombing during the first few hours after the ceasefire every time, I remember the same shit with Lebanon. Finally came back to bite them

[-] aanes_appreciator@hexbear.net 16 points 1 hour ago

Finally came back to bite them

Sadly a single missile that got intercepted wasn't much of a bite. Maybe Trump being pissed with Israel will bring us some funny clips and posts.

[-] ColombianLenin@hexbear.net 15 points 1 hour ago

I have a hypothesis that Iran didn't intend to do much damage, and instead focused on maximizing what was it's win condition, to waste as many Israeli interceptors as possible.

[-] Parzivus@hexbear.net 12 points 1 hour ago

I was referring to the ceasefire potentially being over. I guess it might still be going? Who the fuck knows

When Trump’s sanctions in 2019 blocked insulin and other life-saving medicines from entering Venezuela—killing tens of thousands of Venezuelans—Iran intervened and bypassed the embargo. Venezuelans have not forgotten. Today, thousands took to the streets in solidarity with Iran.

Two unexploded Israeli missiles that was fired at Evin prison were defused and recovered. - Mehr New Agency

Yesterday also a Israeli Hermes drone was shot down with its components damaged but fairly recognizable and some undamaged. It's payload was also recovered, Spike missiles, if I recall correctly. It used Iridium LEO for communication. Anyway, Iranian engineers are going to have field day reverse-engineering those components.

As folks here said correctly, there were no manned aircraft shoot down at all, or any pilot captured because not a single image or video came out showing so.

Regarding ceasefire, I believe it's not going to last long because it would be really bad for Israel. Iran now knows a lot about its weaknesses and almost all people are against Israel and US now. If the Iran's rulers act smartly they can cement this national unity and garner massive nation-wide support. However, presently Iran still can't do what Yemenis can do like intervening to help the Resistance members due to lack of support among general public for the leadership itself.

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro reaffirms that #Iran is the beginning of humanity, and Venezuela maintains its support for the nation, and peace must reign.

[-] Redcuban1959@hexbear.net 32 points 2 hours ago

The Venezuelan government, led by President Nicolas Maduro, made an urgent appeal to the international community to hold a “Summit for Peace and against War”, to curb the growing global tensions that could lead to a nuclear conflict.

The proposal was formally presented to the diplomatic corps accredited in Caracas in an act headed by Vice President Delcy Rodriguez and Foreign Minister Yvan Gil, who warned of the imminent danger of an escalation of war with catastrophic consequences for humanity.

During the meeting with the Vice President, Rodriguez read a message from Maduro in which he stressed the need for “an immediate cessation of hostilities and a political solution based on dialogue, international law and respect for the sovereignty of peoples”. The initiative seeks to promote a coordinated response among nations to avoid a crisis of global proportions.

Russia Expects Israeli Threats Against Ayatollah Khamenei to Be Empty Words - Telesur English

Article

Russia doesn’t seek to act as a mediator in the Israel-Iran conflict but is making proposals to help resolve the situation, Putin said. On Friday, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed confidence that Israel’s threats to assassinate Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei were merely rhetorical.

“I would like to believe that the things you mentioned remain on the level of rhetoric,” the Russian leader told the moderator of the plenary session at the St. Petersburg Economic Forum.

Two days earlier, during a briefing with representatives of major news agencies, Putin said he did not even want to discuss the possibility. “I’ve heard all this, but I don’t want to talk about it,” he said emphatically.

On Thursday, however, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz once again used hateful and threatening language, explicitly stating that Ayatollah Khamenei “can no longer be allowed to exist.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has also escalated his rhetoric against Iranian authorities, while the Israeli military has intensified its airstrikes against Iran, where hundreds have been killed, including high-ranking military officials and nuclear scientists. In an interview with U.S. network ABC, the Israeli leader claimed that Khamenei’s death would end the conflict rather than escalate it.

On Friday, Putin also stated that Russia does not seek to act as a mediator in the Israel-Iran conflict but is making proposals to help resolve the current situation.

“I want to emphasize that we are not seeking any mediation role—we are simply proposing ideas. And if they are appealing to both sides, we will be glad… Our proposals are currently under consideration. We maintain almost daily contact with our Iranian friends. So we’ll see,” he said.

In his latest phone call with Putin, U.S. President Donald Trump rejected Russian mediation in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran. Meanwhile, on Thursday, Russia’s Foreign Ministry condemned as “cynical” the attempts to justify Israel’s attacks on Iran, which began a week ago.

Dozens of Palestinian women locked up in Israeli prisons - Prensa Latina

Article

Ramallah, Jun 24 (Prensa Latina) At least 47 Palestinian women are today behind bars in Israeli prisons, including two pregnant women and two teenagers, the Prisoners' Club denounced today.

In a statement, the institution detailed that most of them are detained in Damon prison.

Since the beginning of the Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip, on October 7, 2023, more than 560 Palestinian women were arrested by the security forces, it revealed.

However, he warned, there is no exact figure of how many were arrested in the coastal enclave.

The Club accused the army of using many of them as a means of pressuring family members to turn themselves in.

Recently, the Palestinian Prisoner Information Office denounced the inhumane conditions suffered by female detainees in Damon.

The agency noted that 31 women are crammed into four cramped rooms, lacking the most basic necessities of life.

He warned that they suffer severe food shortages and receive only five slices of bread per day. They are also affected by a lack of hygiene supplies and clothing, it said.

To this must be added poor health conditions, the Office stressed, accusing the prison authorities of denying them basic medical services.

In April, the Palestinian Ministry of Women's Affairs published a report documenting the mistreatment and humiliation to which women are subjected in prisons in the neighboring nation.

The country's prison authorities have intensified their repressive policies against Palestinian women through “torture, sexual violence and enforced disappearance as systematic tools,” it warned.

Minister Mona al-Khalili said that the abuses against women prisoners are not simply individual violations, but rather a systematic policy that uses their bodies as a weapon of war and their dignity as a stage for collective punishment.

We are facing a repressive system that deliberately humiliates women from the moment of their arrest until after their release, through torture, medical negligence, harassment, forced disappearance and solitary confinement, she stressed.
