Ah perhaps I'm not used too that where I am. I appreciate unions truly, and belive we need more. But the ones I've been in have been nearly as corrupt as the politicians. Often run by the retired and wealthy making decisions on behalf of those still working. Often bad ones.

[-] Seigest@lemmy.ca -4 points 3 days ago

That whould typically involve unions. No need for them here though.

Unions are great for a lot of things but they'd be less inclined to help on this as they, don't all support the same parties, and probably dont want their workers to violate any contracts as it would damage future negotiations.

I think isn't a matter of labour and would be stonger without unions. It needs to be from the people.

This is a Canadian asking about the US. Though given that crappy state of things here we could consider it as well.

If the next president isn't picked as a result of the popular vote but as a result of the system being terrible then a majority of the people of the country will have been wronged.

Instead of doing civil war about it, what if there was a mass movement to just do nothing. Everyone just grabs a chair and sits on their lawn or in a park all day and just chills out instead of working, attending events, or really participating in the economy in any significant way. Take a sick day or somthing if it helps. But anybody can do nothing.

In only a few days, maybe less, the economy whould take a massive hit. Just everyone sits around untill a fair election is called without any electoral college or first past the post nonsense.

Obviously there's huge challenges to this. Like finding an end condition everyone can agree on. Also getting a representative to ensure the demands had been met. the huge wave of firing, threats, and violence from the other side whould probably have some effect. But the other side is a minority, and could be overwhelmed.

So if big enough, could it work?

Can't wait from Doug Ford to become PM, and start a space program to add some car lanes on the moon.

I'm not in the security field so sorry if I seem like a newbie. Not sure where else to ask.

I setup my own email domain thing with the help of some kind Lemmy folk. I'm on Namecheap, it was a little tricky for me to set up but it seems to have been working out great.

But yesterday, and again today I got this notice from DMARC that Mail . ru is doing stuff with my account.

advice I was able to google suggest I needed to change a setting from "none" to "reject".

can anyone tell me if I've done this right? also has any damage been done by me not having this set sooner?

Am I missing a joke or did they spell hear as here accidently?

Still shocked they kicked out Pluto over a doping scandal.

It's a game of monopoly and we're all losing.

The Ezra street parties that cost the city thousands are totally fine. but they freak out over a few tents. The only reason this school is around is that it's a feeder school to a lot of local tech companies that want fresh meat to grind.

The garden (lemmy.ca)

nearly 16 are now "infected" I've been studying this thing for like 2 years, my scientist mentioned they could "solve" it some time ago. But now even they have been adding to the garden. I'm wondering if my curiosity has doomed them all.

Guess the game.

Your friend has enslaved a local tribesmen and is having them craft a hat using leather made from their sons skin.

I found a bug once in our content that only affected Firefox. Old versions of articulate whouldnt start properly. Not somthing I could fix on my own as i meeded anyoher department. I brought it to the attention of the managers. They didn't want to fox it as apprently Google analytics showed only .4% of our user base was using Firefox. I manged to convince them its part of our user commitment to ensure that we work consistently across all browsers, but it was a pain.

Not sure if its just me. But the subscribed view is just showing me feeds from a bunch if stuff I am not subscribed too. I am still able to see my subscriptions in the sidebar, it's just the feed view.

solved: comment from user Otter mentioned lemmy.ca had updated. Logging out and back in solves this issue.

Land before time came out in 88 that's only 35 years ago. The CDC reccomends colonoscopies at 45.

It's close. I must have seen it long after its initial release or while I was very young. But I'm still about a decade off from 45.

It's a typical video game peasant looking npc lamenting at no on in particular that's there's a very solvible problem. Oh is only somone could solve this for them! While a very strong capible looking player character is right next to them.

I'm reading somthing about emotional blackmail. Apprently this meme describes one form of it perfectly. Though I havnt seen it in years and I can't find it via searches.

This means no sales, no themed merchandise, no decorations. December 25 and most other day are treated just like any other day for all stores malls, restaurants, ect.

You'd still get non religious holiday events like mothers days, or independence days.

What whould change?

I know this is a long shot as the ads are a 3rd party thing. But I'm not sure where else to ask.

I getting infuriatingly misleading attack ads from a local political party.

I've already removed any ad settings in Google such as removing ad ID and targeted Ad setting. But that did nothing.

Is there kind of like "don't show ads from this organization" option?

I recently switched my mail/domain from Google to name cheap. I've been keeping a critical eye on my junk mail as the spam filtering doesn't seem as good.

I saw neat scam email from my own email adress. It was the usual "I am a hacker give me money" nonsense but the trick with them using my own email adress is pretty neat. I assume they've injected some sort of common replace string?

Just curious if anyone knows the trick here.

Update: followed the advice most of you have provided and spam mail has gone way down as a result. Leaving post here for the next poor sod who runs into these problems. Maybe Google will lead folks here instead of reddit.

Thank you kind strangers.

I'm going to horribly oversimply this. For example. Say I am wearing a shirt a cheap one for Wal-Mart.

This shirt was produced in a sweat shop. That sweat shop has .0005 deaths per day. Thus by wearing this shirt and supporting the mechanisms that brought it to me. I have a killcount for today a number substantially smaller then .0005 and obviously there's a tonne of subjectivity on what that number might be.

Now include the dye factory that made the shirt green, the shoes I am wearing, the bus I am riding in, the coffee I drink. All these luxuries and that number may go up a little.

I am wondering if this is somthing that is being considered anywhere is somone building a calculation to determine our daily kill counts.

I'm sure most of us probably don't what to know what ours might be, but knowing what parts of our daily lives have the highest values we might work harder to change for the better.

I love how companies can be like "you can't have those people they belong to me". And that's somehow normal.

I noticed there's a lot of " This is an automated archive made by the Lemmit Bot." Post. And I am wondering why?

I dont really understand why these are popular. The bots are only copying the OP Post and not the comments.
