Imagine a clock that doesn’t have electricity, but its hands and gears spin on their own for all eternity.

No, no, no, these crystals still need energy to move. They talk about "all you have to do is shine a light on it", yes, that adds energy.

Cool results, but yet another failure of science communication.

Local entropy, that is. At a global scale, life increases entropy.

TBF imaginary time is a math trick and not something that actually progresses. It lets us apply results from statistical physics to quantum field theory through a Wick rotation.

I have no idea about the numbering, but I know of at least

  • Ferromagnetism (like a fridge magnet)
  • Antiferromagnetism (opposite of ferromagnetism at an atomic level)
  • Diamagnetism (makes superconductors float)
  • Paramagnetism (like that spinny frog)

These all indicate how a material reacts to a magnetic field. This article discusses "altermagnetism", which is somewhere between ferromagnetism and antiferromagnetism.

I still can't believe The Matrix is from '99. The themes and the effects hold up incredibly well, it feels far more modern.

An ounce of their Dark Chocolate has 134% of the California MADL dose of 0.5 micrograms of lead, for those wondering about details.

I think the bluer bird is younger, not knowing that summer ends, and being even more surprised that this involves immense journeys

What on earth are you talking about?

There's nothing easier than just explicitly checking in whether you've read the signals correctly or not before making any creepy moves.

Tip #1 for flirting: Make sure that the other person has a very easy way out of anything they might not like. Then you know they're enthusiastically consenting for whatever comes next.

Quantum mechanics (and spin) isn't really mysterious or inaccessible, it's just not intuitive.

Original from Perry Bible Fellowship: https://pbfcomics.com/comics/one-more-day/

Weird that the text was re-written, I wonder if the comic was somehow translated and translated back to English?

Does being a Jewish Palestinian somehow make you Israeli? What then if you're a non-Jewish Israeli? 🤔

Not a commie, but didn't the Norwegian people nationalize the oil production, leasing it out to companies while keeping a huge share of the profit for the welfare of common Norwegians?

My understanding is that, in a sense, that is exactly what seizing the means of production is about.
