It seems that the motherboard is dead, and that it's a common issue with the 5a and I "should've known better," despite it being impossible to find decent information on phones these days.

I got it because it was the last Pixel with a headphone jack, and because it had good official LineageOS support. But I compromised: giving up the SD slot was tough for me, and now that I've been burned by not having one (I typically auto-backup my Signal history and other things to the SD card) I don't want to get another phone without it.

But the landscape seems bleak. The vast majority of phones that are officially supported by LineageOS are Pixels. It's impossible to find easy information on which phones have non-official LOS ROMs. Search results are useless these days, and I also keep running into an issue where after researching a phone for half an hour I discover that it has some arcane process to unlock the bootloader that doesn't always work, and the forum posters imply that the purchasers "should've known better." I'm just at my wit's end.

If anyone can suggest something that has decent deGoogled ROM support with the following features, I'd be very grateful:

  • OLED screen (a must-have for my photosensitivity)
  • SD card slot
  • I am willing to give up the headphone jack in order to expand my options

Hey all, I wrote this article with some practical advice on how to resist the attention economy (think notifications, shorts, ads, etc) by setting up a desktop for mindful engagement.

It also includes a VirtualBox VM with a lightweight sample environment so you can try it out and see what I mean in the article.

Hope this is helpful! :)

The image is a graphic titled "the real luxuries," highlighting simple yet profound pleasures in life. It features a two-column list with illustrations and corresponding text for each item: > > "a good night's sleep" with an icon of a pillow and Z's, representing sleep. > "slow mornings" accompanied by a coffee cup icon. > "freedom to choose" symbolized by an open hand with a heart in the center. > "time for fun and play" depicted with an artist's palette and brushes. > "listening to birds singing" with an illustration of a bird on a branch with musical notes. > "long walks" represented by a tree. > "a good book" shown with a book icon. > "favorite home-cooked meal" with a bowl of food. > "colorful sunsets" with a sun partly below a horizon line. > "ability to freely express yourself" symbolized by a flame. > "day naps" with a cloud and moon indicating sleep. > "a good conversation" depicted by two hands in a handshake gesture. > > The overall message is an appreciation for life's simple joys, depicted in a clean, minimalist design with blue icons and text on a white background.

Golden is a field guide to getting beyond the noise—not just the noise in our ears, but also on our screens and in our heads. Drawing on lessons from neuroscience, business, spirituality, politics, and the arts, Marz and Zorn explore why auditory, informational, and internal silence is essential for physical health, mental clarity, ecological sustainability, and vibrant community. They show how to go beyond the ordinary rules and tools of mindfulness to help individuals, families, organizations, and whole societies dial down the noise and find pristine attention.

All of them show up on my own, but on other user profiles typically none will show up, or only a couple from a month ago.

I'm on the current nightly build.

Edit: never mind, this post doesn't show on my profile for me.

I highly recommend configuring qBittorrent to only connect to the VPN interface, so if your VPN is off it will simply not connect to the internet at all.

Someone has been defacing OpenStreetMap with stuff like this for months as well. It's pretty sad.

However, because all other records take information from your birth certificate, this effectively bars trans people from having photo identification that aligns with their gender. This creates a safety issue for trans people every time they have to provide said photo identification.

Your birth certificate also records the name your parents gave you at birth, but we've allowed people to amend the document when they change their name for a long time. Why is this any different?

Yeah, I feel like Cone Of Cold would have been a better spell for this meme. No chance at evading its damage.

I've dealt with this particular bot problem as a mod. Noticing the pattern early on was easy because they always had posts on TEMU subreddits. Now that those subs are banned, it's harder.

  1. Comment length. Their comments are always less than two lines long.

  2. Tone. They always contain at least one exclamation point, and tend to have a tone that I'd say is "cheery to the point it's offputting."

  3. Context. Reading them, a lot of the time you'll ask "did they even read what they're replying to?" The comment seems related, but directly misses the main point.

  4. History. Look at the rest of their comments. If more than one ends in two emojis, they're definitely part of this particular bot network.

Thank you for making this post. The number of times I've seen the term used here lately has been bothering me.

I moderated two subreddits over 1m users, one over 250k users, and a handful over 10k users.

Every. single. one. of my team members has left, except for one on one of the tiny subreddits.

But people who cannot do those things are not "valuelesss." That is ableist and still informed by the Protestant Work Ethic. People can still have value even if they can't do labour.

People do work in non-capitalist situations for the betterment of the community. The value is not measured by metrics, but by how fulfilled people feel by it.
