Had to look this one up. Hitchhiker's guide character for others like me...

Slartibartfast is a Magrathean and a designer of planets.[2] His favourite part of the job is creating coastlines, the most notable of which are the fjords found on the coast of Norway on planet Earth,[3] for which he won an award.

Well that's fucking stupid. Can you see what's in the modlog? I can't look right now.

This is the biggest news story of the day IMO.

Alternatively - Invidious link.

Really interesting video that does a decent look at the issues with the great impact theory.

In Dublin there was a monument locally called "The Floozie in the Jacuzzi" ("floozie" is someone promiscuous) which apparently the artist quite liked. It got moved off the main thoroughfare at some point.

I'm a terrible sleeper. Like disaster zone level. I'm nearing the end of "Project Hail Mary" which is perfect for me; Very easy to get into, engaging story, not engaging to the point you wont fall asleep (mostly and I'm OK with the "mostly" bits).

Ones I've read and felt were similarly good for sleep:

  • A Gentleman in Moscow
  • Three Body Problem #1
  • All of Ted Chiang's stuff
  • Murderbot (got bored with this a few books in)
  • Recursion
  • Artemis

I'm trying to choose from one of these and could use a recommendation, specifically with sleep in mind:

  • Red Rising (Pierce Brown)
  • Old Man's War (John Scalzi)
  • My Friends (Frederik Backman)
  • Wild Dark Shore (Charlotte McConaghy)
  • The Will of the Many (James Islington)

Any other recommendations gladly accepted.

Two for me:

  1. The moment you feel tipsy it's time to ease down. You have a stomach full of booze that's going to make you more drunk even if you stop immediately.

  2. If you think people are good, you're probably right and if you think people are bad, you're probably right.

People are good IMO.

We've stopped calling it the famine here and now it's "the great hunger".

Ireland was producing more than enough to feed itself but the British landlords were forcing the export of non-potatoes and leaving us to die.

The queen at the time politically shamed the Turks into reducing their aid to us because it was higher than hers.

What's up, Turkey? We haven't forgotten your generosity.

Massive, massive shout out to our Choctaw brothers and sisters in America who gave what they didn't have after the trail of tears.

For those not familiar, we have never, ever forgotten that one.

If a child gives you anything, anything at all, blade of grass, shell at the seaside, whatever - take it with real, heartfelt thanks. It is all they have to give.

Such alliteration. I'm in awe. Like 6 B words in a row and not one of them is bitch.

Amazing.

"Hey Vasquez... Have you ever been mistaken for a man?"

"No. Have you?"

Top ten movie zinger for me. Delivered perfectly. Loved her character so much.

In fairness the setup was absolutely beautiful. She's some woman for the zingers.
