Like peertube for music yes. Maybe not as feature complete yet but it aims to be similar.

Federation doesnt automatically share the actual audio files but peer tube also doesnt work like that either really. Funkwhale users can follow each other and have shared playlists across pods though.

Why not just stop using spotify? You cant possibly stream enough to cost them more then they earn in a month from you using it. Even on mute they can still count you as an active user when it comes to selling ads and promiting themselves.

If you really want to hurt spotify, use one of the services like Soundiiz that lets you export your lists and library, grab a 2 month trial of tidal for $2 and point tidal-dl to download it all for offline use. Get yourself a nice dedicated music player like a classic ipod running rockbox. If space is an issue convert from flac to opus.

If you really, really, want to hurt spotify do what i did and take the above instructions and then also spin up your own FunkWhale pod so everyone can also enjoy that music without giving corporations like spotify a dime.

We arent going beat corporations by using their products "too much", the way to beat them is to replace them with self hosted alternatives.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NOYB in case anyone else was wondering.

I'd never heard of them before but it looks like they have a pretty good history of holding corps accountable.

Yeah some serious boomer logic going on here.

"We thought that if we kept the foundation and the outer walls of the house and we just took the roof off, it was our understanding that we were going to preserve our Save Our Homes and our homestead,” says Debbie."

"the renovations—removing the roof, adding a second floor —ultimately triggered a full reassessment of the home’s value. Under Florida law, once a property is deemed substantially improved, it can be treated as new construction, removing the protections that had capped the home’s assessed value for years."

Mail carriers are not idiots, they just discard the thing as trash since its obviously not an envelope... Business reply mail will only ever be paper letters, so what you actually want to do is just send whatever it is back to them with useless information or if its an actual envelope you can stuff it with glitter or shred the paper inside, its still technically "improper use" but they won't know that until its at the destination.

They have some kind of revenue sharing in place but I doubt it pays much seeing as the company is bleeding money and advertisers want nothing to do with it.

4k77, 4k80, and 4k83 are the names given to the fan attempt to digitize the original 35mm film reel verisons of the star wars trilogy.

DMCA applies to all ISPs in the US, Google will forward notices just like any other isp. In theory they could ban you per terms of service, in practice they probably won't bother.

A VPN is $5 a month, and you'll never have to worry about even getting the notices, but I'm sure you already knew that.

Pullpush is an alternative and free API for reddit, this threat/ban is based on the assumption that pullpush is using the official reddit API, and I guess that its using it exclusively through a single reddit account which they just banned.

It has to do with lawyers because they are trying to make a vague legal threat i guess, Youtube made a similar demand of invidious and sent a C&D to them for violating ToS of the Youtube API which they do not use.. So I dont think the lack of lawyers is the issue so much as lack of competent engineers who could explain to the lawyers that one does not need to use API to get content from a public website which requires no login to see contents.
