Adding to the comic strip communities of the fediverse, i started The Boondocks today. !theboondocks@slrpnk.net

You may be thinking to yourself, but wait I already subscribed... Yeah, well in my haste to create the community there was a typo in the url that could not be fixed. So I am closing that community and opened a new one.

I will repost the strips that were published originally in December of 1996, starting with the first one today.

The Boondocks is probably most well known for the Adult Swim cartoon, but before that it was a comic strip that started in “The Diamondback”, the student newspaper at the University of Maryland, College Park on 3 December 1996.

It ran there until March of 1997 when a strip was missed, the following day a large OOPS was published in the strip’s place. The artist, and creator of the strip, Aaron McGruder then started publishing The Boondocks in Source magazine from 97-98. The earliest strip in syndication is 19 April 1999.

It was also published on hitlist.com. Initially i thought that happened after it left the Diamondback, but it actually sounds like it was published there first.

A moderator for lostmediawiki went to the University of Maryland library and found microfiche of the Diamondback and has shared the early Boondocks Strips. They are quite rough visually. Thank you to Lucy for preserving these.

Since I missed the actual first day of the strip, i will post a few to get us caught up. Then there will be a break for March and half of April (unless someone manages to uncover any strips) when I will resume on the 19th with the strips from 1999.

This appears to be fixed in the 2.4.1 TestFlight.

After having a Stream Deck and then installing Linux on an old laptop for my wife, I decided to try and resurrect an old desktop I built in 2016. Wondering if it worth upgrading the graphics card, or is the whole thing too old to be of much use.

Edit to add: No Man's Sky is my most played game. And I was looking at an 8gb Radeon card as an update, if that upgrade would make the system usable, then I will do that. Otherwise I will save for a Steam Machine.

Edit 2: I knew I had a better graphics card, when I got home from work I found it. It is a [ASUS GeForce GTX 970 4GB GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 SLI Support Graphics Card STRIX-GTX970-DC2OC-4GD5](https://www.newegg.com/asus-strix-gtx970-dc2oc-4gd5-geforce-gtx-970-4gb-graphics-card-double-fans/p/N82E16814121899?item=N82E16814121899)

I see a lot of US Americans think that north America only has 3 countries. That's false.

Three countries is what I was taught in school in the 80s and 90s. And that the Americas are 3 continents; North, Central, and South America.

Trump saw diminutive cars on a recent visit to Asia. Now, he wants them in the States.

I am one of the last people to sing him any praise, but it would be great if this actually happens.

[Transportation] Secretary Duffy looked rather surprised during the briefing in the White House, but did not waver from Trump’s stance.

Looks like this is another one of those things he blurted out without talking to anyone else about it.

RICHMOND, Va. — Several ICE agents had their internal organs forcibly removed during a recent raid on the Slave Pit, home of the extraterrestrial rock band GWAR, confirmed absolutely horrified sources.

“The band was in the middle of our weekly cocaine-orgy/seafood boil when these ICE chodes stormed the Slave Pit claiming we were illegal aliens and threatening to deport us back to our home planet of Scumdoggia,” said GWAR vocalist Blothar the Berserker. “Obviously, these jerkoffs had no idea who they were messing with. I grabbed one of these ICE guys and ripped his spleen out through his dick while the rest of the band went to work on the other ‘agents.’ Then we used their hollowed-out skulls as toilets because anyone stupid enough to fuck with GWAR has to have shit for brains.”

As someone who used to do preventative and emergency maintenance on -80 freezers, this hits hard. The number of nights I spent swapping samples from one unit to another because the first unit was failing was a lot... but it was automatic triple time.

I have been trying to find a PeerTube instance so I can upload music my son's band performs.

I signed up to 5 different PeerTube instances over the past two weeks. 4 of them have not accepted or rejected my application, despite all of their pages saying the accept within 24-48 hours. The fifth instance denied my application with, "read the coc and reapply". I had read it before applying, but I read it again and reapplied, it was again denied with the same reason given.

I would like to find an instance for music, preferably not hosted in the US.

Yes there is a walmart, but only one actual grocery store, and it now stock frozen sushi.

Update: I shared this picture with my local gaming group, one of them went and picked up a tray.

He tossed it into the fridge and tried it this morning.

I had the first piece. It is supposed to be "Refrigerated Only" by the packaging, but honestly, with a fridge thaw, it tastes just fine. I've had plenty worse than that.

If I was not vegetarian I would give it a try. The closest place to get sushi to us is an hour drive.

I have a uGreen dock for my Steam Deck, but it does not work for my Switch 2. I am looking for a dock that will work for both, preferably something with usb ports for mouse and keyboard for the deck.

I have seen there are some usb dongles that work for both, and that is a last ditch option.

When I was in college at Eastern New Mexico, which is about 45 minutes west of Amarillo Texas, a couple friends, both from New England, had the bright idea of driving down to the gulf over a 4 day weekend.

I cautioned them against the idea, trying to explain Texas was bigger than they could imagine. Three hours into the trip we got a motel room in some hole in the wall town and went back to school the next morning.

Was this base the one that trimp had us pull out of right after Biden took office and everyone blamed Biden for the messy withdrawal?

This shows abuse more than anything. He was likely forced to use his right hand growing up and has never fully recovered.

Fairly certain my first computer used something like this for the keyboard. I did not have a mouse.
