I once watched a youtube review of this game from someone who seemed to grasp a lot of the game's personal and emotional themes, but when he got to a point when a character asked him if he was a communist, was like "how should I know??? Maybe communism means something completely different in this fantasy world."

Walked right up to the door and jumped out the window.

Maybe being hungover and divorced means something different in this fantasy world! What about "sad"? I can't understand the personal and emotional themes at all!

One of my favourite things is watching people who "hate politics" or "don't get political on stream" talk to the Sunday friend. The realisation that they all have, that they sound exactly like him is great. Of course, afterwards, they rarely actually learn anything and continue to behave the same way. But it's fun to see them confronted with their shit politics for a minute. I can't think of any other bit of media that actually challenges this kind of status quo warrior centrism.

I love the hidden scene where you climb the statue and connect to the battleship. You can ask why is everything so shit in Revechol. And when you do the woman explains it with a delicate metaphor about this elaborate glass construction around a square in this far off place. The placement of the glass needs to be perfect so they can form this beautiful pattern on the square in the evening. Everything needs to be in its right place for the sum of the effects to work. Everything needs to be in its right place for the greater good.

As she saying this Harry looks out over the ruins and economic desolation of Ravchol. There's something so poignant about how unfair it seems. How these disinterested Powers That Be can treat this place and these people like a piece of glass in their delicate liberal construction of the world.

I think it's probably my favourite piece of writing in any game.

To be fair they do have literal proof that their liberalism is holding back the apocalypse given the whole Pale temporal metaphysics stuff. Humanity's literally thinking itself to death in this setting

Sunday friend is one of my favorite characters for this reason. Not to like, of course, but because he is so true to life. You won't find many Measureheads out there (they are mostly Lorry Drivers and Cryptofascists), but there are millions upon millions of Sunday Friends.

has anyone figured out how to talk about politics without being annoying? asking for my me

[-] TreadOnMe@hexbear.net 21 points 2 days ago

Yes. Literally just talk about it as if it was gossip or celeb trash.

[-] underisk@hexbear.net 30 points 2 days ago

Yes. Make a video game, or other piece of art about it and then watch as people fail to recognize the metaphor.

I just get all anti-capitalist in like every conversation, I'm probably annoying

Oh so you want to know about "politics", do you?

Don't try and bring it up necessarily. People come up with grievances about the reality of capitalism all the time. Empathise with them, and offer them an alternative framework that proves it's not their personal failure that made rent unaffordable, work-life miserable, and the world climate collapse.
