These people would literally crucify Jesus again if he came back, even with absolute undeniable proof that's him.

[-] msage@programming.dev 62 points 2 months ago

even FASTER with absolute undeniable proof that's him

[-] stinky@redlemmy.com 17 points 2 months ago

quick get rid of the evidence

what evidence

the evidence that we were wrong

[-] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.world 9 points 2 months ago

Jesus: "The fuck is a border?". "What do you mean rich people, how could there be poor or desperate people?". "You created projectiles that explode and kill people? I thought you torturing me was supposed to be the end of this shit?".

...this is hopeless, I'm going back to heaven, see none of y'all there

[-] UltraMagnus0001@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

Flip them tables

[-] msage@programming.dev 2 points 2 months ago

well, that stuff doesn't exist in their mind in the first place, and their mind has nothing to do with reality

[-] stinky@redlemmy.com 4 points 2 months ago

i think you'd be surprised by how many people believe in heaven and think they're the only ones getting in : /

[-] echodot@feddit.uk 13 points 2 months ago

Well yeah, he would be black and therefore clearly a member of MS13

[-] DontRedditMyLemmy@lemmy.world 13 points 2 months ago

Omg, how funny would it be to popularize portraits of Jesus with MS13 on his knuckles in Calibri typeface.

Somebody should really report these MAGA people for their anti-Christian biases

[-] Zagorath@aussie.zone 36 points 2 months ago

Fundamentalist protestants hate Catholics almost as much as they hate Jews and Muslims.

[-] clay_pidgin@sh.itjust.works 15 points 2 months ago

The evangelicals I know deny that catholics are even christian. I understand it's some stupid wordplay - they call themselves Catholic instead of Christian therefore they aren't Christian. We don't self identify as a denomination, simply as Christian because obviously we are the correct, default choice.

[-] ForgotAboutDre@lemmy.world 9 points 2 months ago

It’s not ridiculous for Protestants to say catholics aren’t Christian. Protestant movements came about because they believed the Catholic Church wasn’t teaching the word of God. It’s not a coincidence it came about at a similar time to the printing press.

As people became more literate they started to learn the contradictions between the priests and the bible. The reaction to this resulted in movements that preached personal relationships with God and rejection of false profits (worshiping popes, saints etc).

If your not aligned with either of these religions is seems ridiculous. The reality is you can’t think Protestantism is the correct path if you believe Catholics are Christians. This is the same for many religions, they mostly claim they are right and everyone else is wrong.

[-] mosiacmango@lemm.ee 9 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

The above doesn't track. Every sect of Christianity thinks its the "true" sect, but you aren't likely to see a Methodist claim an Baptist isn't Christian. They just claim they aren't following god correctly.

Attempting to remove catholics or even mormons from being "Christian" at all is just a push to de-legitimize them as religions entirely. It's not reasonable, it's hateful by design, an intentional "othering."

[-] ForgotAboutDre@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

I don’t think you got the central point. Protestants exist to protest Catholicism. A Protestant that recognises catholics as Christian’s wouldn’t be a Protestant.

Different sects of Protestantism are able to recognise other sects as Christian’s because a central tentant of Protestant practice is the personal relationship with God. So different sects of Protestants find that easier to accept. Where as Catholics practice a relationship with God that is tied to the organisation and the Pope.

Mormons are arguably a different religion altogether. Similar to how Jewish/Christian/Islam all share similar but different religious texts making them all different religions.

The intended outcome is othering.

You misunderstand reasonable. It does not mean good, more the natural conclusion given the context.

[-] barneypiccolo@lemm.ee 4 points 2 months ago

One group that INVENTED their version of Religion, hates that other group who invented a slightly different version of the same Religion that uses the same reference book with all the same cast of characters. Its like one theater troupe wanting to murder another theater group because they disagree with their costume choices in the exact same play.

And ALL of it is a fantasy, supported by stories made up by neolithic goatherders to pass the time.

Mormons add a large extra chunk. Other dominions have different interpretations and some added teachings but it's not entirely unreasonable

Mormons are non-trinitarian, so I'd say people trying to claim that they're not Christian have a much better case than protestants saying Catholics aren't Christian.

[-] saltesc@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

Well don't ya know, Jesus came 1800 years earlier on the other side of the planet to set up his fav country. All others he doesn't bless.

[-] Zagorath@aussie.zone 4 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

I don't know which has a more absurd origin story, in terms of how ridiculous it is to believe it given the history of how it started (irrespective of the actual dogmas), Mormonism or Scientology.

[-] mosiacmango@lemm.ee 3 points 2 months ago

Scientology has grotesque space aliens flying across the universe in jumbo jet shaped space craft and dumping millions of souls into volcanoes that later attach to your soul and hinder your life.

Mormons have dumb stories about land bridges and magic dudes doing extra magic to hide secret texts for bigamists to find.

I think Scientology has got this one.

American ideologies. If they didn't make it to crazy religion status, they died trying as a crazy cult. And all the rest are about getting rich despite the odds and humanity.

[-] carotte@lemmy.blahaj.zone 48 points 2 months ago

Screenshot of a Tumblr post by cryptotheism: I would rather have a woke pope than a nonwoke pope but there will never be a pope woke enough to un-genocide the Americas.

the catholic church is an institution that is rotten to its core, even when fascists hate the guy at the top

[-] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 14 points 2 months ago

Appreciating that the Church will be anti-republican and leaning ever so slightly more into liberalism can exist alongside the Church’s history.

I’ll never be pro-religion, but we n ed to take a win when we can.

[-] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 months ago

It’s all just fluff and disingenuous crap. Take the last one, Francis. He pretended to be soooo humble because he slept in a nice cottage still in the disgustingly opulent Vatican instead of the even nicer pope bedroom. As an absolute monarch he had the power to dismantle the entire system and give away the wealth to the previous victims of the church to make amends. But he didn’t. This one will say a bunch of nice stuff about migrants, but when the rubber hits the road nothing will change. And they’ll still force every one of their poor members to pay a 10% income tax while burying more gold in the Vatican.

he had the power to dismantle the entire system

One guy vs a globe of catholics? I realize he's supposed to be the voice of god and all, but... I just don't believe this.

Unfortunately really not a high bar.

Normal person: We should improve society somewhat.
MAGA: ~~Woke.~~ What is wrong with that person? Why are they aware of issues that we face as a society? We need to put a stop to this by voting for a guy who's never lived an ordinary day in his entire life.

[-] echodot@feddit.uk 7 points 2 months ago

Also MEGA, it doesn't matter anyway because I hate who I'm told. Even if I don't know why. Knowing things (anything at all) is what the libs want.

[-] Blackmist@feddit.uk 5 points 2 months ago

Don't let them off that easy.

They were hating minorities long before Trump came along. He just taught them that it was acceptable.

[-] madjo@feddit.nl 35 points 2 months ago

Is that because he's not trump? Were there MAGAts who genuinely believed that trump even had a chance?!

Wait, never mind, of course MAGAts thought trump had a chance, they don't live in reality.

Source: I live there

Well that makes you a communist. Living in reality is a form of communism

[-] IndieSpren@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 2 months ago

He has said some anti lgbt and anti feminist stuff. But also, he has said anti capitalist, pro worker's union, and pro immigration stuff.

[-] hOrni@lemmy.world 32 points 2 months ago

So basically turning around the MAGA philosophy? They hate everything vaguely leftist, even if it's food for them. Like bicycle paths, renewable energy, unions, taxing the rich, universal healthcare, etc. Not really a good way of looking at things.

[-] NateNate60@lemmy.world 31 points 2 months ago

It must be a coincidence that all of the things on that list would be to the minor detriment of the wealth of billionaires and trillion-dollar companies if they were implemented

[-] synapse3252@sh.itjust.works 9 points 2 months ago

I generally agree that blindly hating without critical thinking what somebody supports is problematic, but the reasons for which they hate the pope are pretty fucking dumb. So 🤷

[-] Lemminary@lemmy.world 15 points 2 months ago

I would've lost it if they had elected any of the other more conservative candidates. The less conservative-leaning-on-fascism, the better. Fingers crossed this comment ages well.

[-] Delphia@lemmy.world 9 points 2 months ago

I honestly hoped that the now deceased Pope stacked the deck with an American to call out how unchristian most American christians are.

[-] jlh@lemmy.jlh.name 5 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Yeah, a centrist American like Leo will be able to speak to America during its ongoing crisis period.

MAGAs have lost their souls and minds, if they ever had the latter. The whole Pope position is more than iffy, totally unnecessary and a relic of the past, a reminder of the times in which the Pope had lands and actual power (and much blood was shed making these people rich and using the name of God as an excuse). This pope might be, insha'Allah, a better human than every single red American, sure, but that's a very low bar, especially for a religious leader. The last Pope was loved by all and was an exception because he was a reasonable and moral man, not a politician in funny clothes.

[-] Demdaru@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

About pope part: meh.

Pope is more than position - it's a symbol and in my lifetime I already heard about two beloved popes so yeah. They are to act like a shepard and inspire us to be the better version of ourselves. In short, spiritual leaders.

It doesn't work on not religious people for the most part, and it's not supposed to. And from what I've seen id doesn't work neither for left nor right...for first because christianity is too slow on moral progress and on the other because christianity is too fast with moral progress. Which is a funny proof for people thinking they can meet with right in the middle xD

[-] 0_o7@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 2 months ago

Two shitty delusional cult leaders hate each other.
