Walter Rodney, born in Guyana on 22nd of march in 1942, Pan-African, Marxist intellectual who was assassinated by the Guyanese government in 1980 at 38 years old.

Rodney attended the University College of the West Indies in 1960 and was awarded a first class honors degree in History in 1963. He later earned a PhD in African History in 1966 at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London, England, at the age of 24.

Rodney traveled extensively and became well-known as an activist, scholar, and formidable orator. He taught at the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania from 1966-67 and 1969-1974, and in 1968 at his alma mater University of the West Indies.

On October 15th, 1968, the government of Jamaica declared Rodney a "persona non grata" and banned him from the country. Following his dismissal by the University of the West Indies, students and poor people in West Kingston protested, leading to the "Rodney Riots", which caused six deaths and millions of dollars in damages.

In 1972, Rodney published "How Europe Underdeveloped Africa". Historian Melissa Turner describes the work this way: "A brutal critique of long-standing and persistent exploitation of Africa by Western powers, How Europe Underdeveloped Africa remains a powerful, popular, and controversial work in which Rodney argued that the early period of African contact with Europe, including the slave trade, sowed the seeds for continued African economic underdevelopment and had dramatically negative social and political consequences as well. He argued that, while the roots of Africa’s ailments rested with intentional underdevelopment and exploitation under European capitalist and colonial systems, the only way for true liberation to take place was for Africans to become cognizant of their own complicity in this exploitation and to take back the power they gave up to the exploiters."

On June 13th, 1980, Rodney was killed in Georgetown, Guyana via a bomb given to him by Gregory Smith, a sergeant in the Guyana Defence Force, one month after returning Zimbabwe. In 2015, a "Commission of Inquiry" in Guyana that the country's then president, Linden Forbes Burnham, was complicit in his murder.

"If there is to be any proving of our humanity it must be through revolutionary means."

Walter Rodney

you know what grinds my gears? these latter-day overhauls for older total war games that put extremely high-poly models in.

putting performance aside (which we definitely shouldn't) none of these games have ever had sophisticated enough lighting for details on these models to actually be appreciated, that's why devs show them off in renders, nor will players actually trying to play instead of take screenshots enjoy them, even zoomed in to look at the fight you're at the scale of 10's of guys, not 1st person and the quality does not need to be 1st person

So last night I was reading a huffpost article about the tariffs kicking in for small businesses. One small business they interviewed was a Wicca store and they showed receipts of the price increase.

CoincIdentally, I passed by my Wicca store this morning to work and they were selling off all their product out front

Laptop touchpad started acting all wack ooooooooooooooh

It's under warranty so shouldn't cost anything to get fixed but it'll likely be a few weeks before I get it back. On the bright side this gives me a good reason to hop back on the steam deck! Started a Dark Souls 2 soul level 1 run the other day. I've gotten pretty far in them before but never actually completed one iirc

Captain Gantu in Lilo & Stitch, the end of Leroy & Stitch, and Stitch & Ai, is an extremely large and muscular alien from the ice-covered eighth planet of the Kreplok System with a gruff, militant personality. He resembles a humanoid whale with gray skin, blue eyes, and pillar-like legs, and stands twenty feet tall. He is voiced by Kevin Michael Richardson in Western media, Keith Silverstein in Stitch!, and Richard Epcar in Stitch & Ai.

Captain Gantu does not appear in the 2025 live-action remake of the original film due to budgetary constraints. With the character of Captain Gantu, the main villain of the original film being written out, Jumba serves as the film's antagonistic force by wanting to take Stitch away. He also speaks with an American accent instead of a Russian accent.

In May 2025, it was revealed that the original film's main antagonist Gantu, the corrupt captain of the United Galactic Federation's armada, was cut from the film. Shortly after the film's release, Fleischer Camp and Eirich revealed to Entertainment Weekly that Gantu was in the original scripts of the film, but the former advocated for the character's removal and shifting the antagonist role to Jumba.

Fleischer Camp believed that Gantu's arrival on Earth in the original film turned it into "a more conventional movie", while making Jumba the villain added a "personal connection" to the live-action film's story, as Fleischer Camp saw him as a "terrible delinquent father figure" for Stitch, saying, "You want your main antagonist to also be the representative of the theme of the film. It seemed like an opportunity to do that as opposed to just there's a big bad boss that comes down and is shooting lasers at everyone."

wtf?

weekly Dr Who rant"That is not what tables are supposed to do!"

Some wish-fuckery has rewritten the nature of reality. While Ruby joins the resistance, Belinda and the Doctor stumble around aimlessly until Rogue from last series somehow Skypes the Doctor from hell.

Stuff I liked:

  • set design on the weird HR Geiger, bone castle. It was a good merging of the aesthetic sensibilities of both classic and new Dr Who.

  • the plot device with the mugs dropping through tables was executed pretty well.

Stuff I didn't like:

  • the return of Omega. Can Dr Who please stop recycling one off villains. Especially considering how particularly final Omega's previous death was.

  • this new version of the Ranni. They took a character with a specific vibe and MO and made her a secondary backup Master.

Overall:

A common pitfall with these two part finale episodes is spending the entire first part on setup, leaving it to feel like kinda an empty episode. I think this episode has fallen into that pitfall. Hopefully next week's is worth all this build up, but I'm not confident.

Someone who watches too much true crime told the girl who works at the front desk that she looks exactly like Sylvia Likens. Poor girl had no idea what he was talking about and awkwardly nodded along.

trhe absolute moral & spiritual wasteland that is hollywood & seeking a career within it + the utter despair & lack of inspiration i feel at sitting in front of a computer when i'm forced to do that so much already has put my desire to write screenplays on life support after finishing a couple. what do? do i find another medium to write in (fiction, poetry)? or should i just thug it out and write in the medium i've built a skillset in anyway because it does something for my soul/mind? making actually doing something with it measurable-career-wise a nice to have but in no way an expectation?

I could tell you generally; I could even give you practical tips especially regarding appetite and cost. I can't attest to any of the emotional inputs or outcomes. I will attest today and for every day after that trying to appeal to others is a fickle, small, moving target that depends on who you're talking to. So you're setting yourself up for disappointment even if it works.

in terms of dietIt took me the better part of a decade to take 2 weeks to really intricately understand my TDEE and tolerance for calorie restriction. I can tell you that "I probably get enough protein" means I got a third to half as much as recommended which meant I would get all headachey and lethargic when I wouldn't count my calories. I could tell you that if you consistently do resistance training and eat well for 6 months you change your life and how people perceive you.

I'm here to be an ear and give you advice if you want.

I want to be in a monogamous romantic relationship so bad. I just want someone to be there for me always to be there when I come home, to lean on and to support. I always wanted this since I was like twelve and now I'm thirty. If I go through my life without never finding somebody I'd would have rather never been born at all
