Steve Buscemi as Miles Prower

Given that Chopper is an actual animal that ate the human-human fruit I think you can get away with him being slightly weird.

I'm not sure if the tsundere personality joke translates to english very well though, let alone directly from comic/anime to live-action.

They're going to need to speed up production of these seasons otherwise the actors are gonna age much more over the series than they ought to.

Yeah, I was surprised when Chopper said Season 2 was coming out in 2026. That's like 3 years between seasons, which is insane considering the first season ended right before they hit Loguetown. I'm not sure exactly how much ground Season 2 is going to cover but I hope the entirety of the Alabasta arc is in there. However, if it's still going to be just 6 episodes like last time it's all going to be compressed to the point of being unrecognisable.

The actor playing Luffy is going to in his fifties before they hit the timeskip at this rate, not that I expect Netflix to even greenlight more seasons after this one

Old Luffy would be a sight all by itself though lmao

From what I hear season 2 ends at drum kingdom

[-] doublepepperoni@hexbear.net 3 points 4 days ago

cat-confused

So there's a very real chance this adaptation will get cancelled before they ever even get to the first proper arc

[-] Frogmanfromlake@hexbear.net 10 points 4 days ago

This series will be very lucky if it manages to end at Enies Lobby or Skypiea

[-] Awoo@hexbear.net 10 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Skypiea in live action is going to be so hard to get right. The sets for it would cost a fortune just to build and I can't think of any other way to do it.

Best compromise is to send the cast up to the clouds, but the camera crew stays on the ground. Transporting all that equipment on site would be too much hassle.

[-] Awoo@hexbear.net 5 points 4 days ago

It's not just the clouds either. You've got the whole forest segment to do and then you've got the ruins area and inside the

2/10 it's what One Piece fans deserve

[-] Barabas@hexbear.net 11 points 4 days ago

Looks alright to me. Just sad that they went with later Chopper instead of the early Chopper as the reference.

Old Chopper had character, too bad Oda hit him with the kawaiification ray

I always thought that the straw hat crew must struggle a little with getting enough to eat on long trips between islands. Looks like poor chopper has been getting the worst of it.

[-] Ralis@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 4 days ago

If you think this is the worst of it, wait till the starvation arc. Sanji has been holding on that deer recipe for emergencies.

I don't know anything about One Piece other than it is entirely too long so I'm never gonna watch it.

Looks like a teddy bear? He's kinda cute.

[-] HelluvaBottomCarter@hexbear.net 12 points 4 days ago

It's fine. I never watched the anime or read the managa though.

I do wonder if anyone working on these kinds of projects ever considers a Roger Rabbit/Coolworld solution to having animated characters with live action. Everyone seems pretty bent on using realistic CG.

[-] doublepepperoni@hexbear.net 12 points 4 days ago

Considering the huge amount of time and effort it took to make Roger Rabbit, there was zero chance they'd go that route for a modern Netflix show

[-] XiaCobolt@hexbear.net 6 points 4 days ago

That's a fantastic idea. I'm also a big fan of a puppet.

[-] Wmill@hexbear.net 11 points 4 days ago

Wished they would have used a puppet for the brain point a dude in a suit for his muscle point and cgi is monster point. He just unnerves me as is tbh

[-] Dirt_Owl@hexbear.net 11 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Why does everything have to be realistic now? What happened to letting artists be creative?

I mean, it's good but... I dunno.

[-] doublepepperoni@hexbear.net 13 points 4 days ago

He does need to exist with a bunch of flesh and blood humans on screen, so I guess their hands were tied to some extent

[-] SevenSkalls@hexbear.net 3 points 4 days ago

Personally, I was hoping for a Muppet, like yoda or Grogu. Being them back Hollywood!

[-] AntiOutsideAktion@hexbear.net 9 points 4 days ago

Should have used a puppet

I loved it as a life long One Piece fan

[-] WizardOfLoneliness@hexbear.net 6 points 4 days ago

why'd they make his hat look like it's made from the same material as him

[-] doublepepperoni@hexbear.net 1 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

He obviously skinned one of the other reindeer to make it

[-] JayTreeman@hexbear.net 2 points 4 days ago

The real reason he was ostracized

[-] corgiwithalaptop@hexbear.net 6 points 4 days ago

Look how they massacred my boy

I just think his teeth are a little too lifelike. I'd call it much closer to Pikachu than Sonic, like an 80/20 split. If you could make the mouth more unassuming then it'd be much easier to relax the gaze to the rest of his visage.
