Adds a lot of cred, and is a major opportunity for PSL to demonstrate how it handles pressure from the State.

[-] Awoo@hexbear.net 73 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

The org gains an absolute fuck tonne of credibility within the left by being recognised as a legitimate threat to the state by the fucks in power. It's on the correct path.

[-] porcupine@lemmygrad.ml 66 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I think this is the most evidence I’ve seen that PSL may actually start to be seen as a credible threat to the empire, and they should absolutely tell Josh Hawley to ~~come back with a warrant or~~ suck shit through a straw. I hope this doesn’t scare them into libbing out like other “leftist” orgs I don’t need to name who insist that staying on the feds’ good side is the winning strategy to overthrow capitalism.

[-] sexywheat@hexbear.net 99 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Well whatever the PSL is doing is working shrug-outta-hecks

[-] Thallo@hexbear.net 66 points 1 day ago

Exactly what I was thinking. Now I know which org is effective

[-] grandepequeno@hexbear.net 42 points 1 day ago

Putting aside how spurious the accusation that the PSL is financing protests probably is, since it's very common for leftist groups to get the "blame" for protests/strikes/whatever I want to make a counterpoint to the argument that this is a good thing for any organization because it gives "credibility" and would make more people join:

I think that takes the people saying they don't join political orgs because they're "suspect", "not radical enough" or "doesn't change anything" at face value. In my experience, leftists, even the most self-professed radical lenin/stalin/mao/xi profile picture guys, don't join because they don't want to actually become activists and give their time to do something that is often very boring and axe-grindish, which a lot of political work is, or they just don't want to deal with people including people who they'll disagree with often (whether inside the org or outside), they're modern atomized subjects that get their political activity buzz from social media like everyone is these days.

So ultimately this reads like it could be pretty bad for the PSL if they actually have to disclose all this stuff, because I assume that there probably were people who didn't have the discipline to watch what they're saying in internal communications, and having the state on top of you will drive people who don't want any trouble with the state away.

This isn't a reason to NOT do things that will put your org under state scrutiny, it depends on what kind of org you want to be, there are already "safe" far-left groups anyway (cpusa, dsa for example), if people want to they'll join those.

So if PSL and its members are ok with the "credibility" ie image of a possibly "dangerous" org to be in then that's fine I don't think that's an illegitimate way to go in america where there's no real institutional left to "spoil" anyway, but it probably opens up as many new problems as opportunities, for one as an example you'd have to think what kind of person joins an org they know is being persecuted, frankly it could be because they're very brave or because they're very crazy and think they're gonna get to do very crazy things.

[-] LeninsBeard@hexbear.net 17 points 1 day ago

I would join PSL if they would let me kitty-birthday-sad

[-] CrawlMarks@hexbear.net 9 points 1 day ago

My local is bad about it as well

[-] DoomBloomDialectic@hexbear.net 6 points 1 day ago

see my previous comment to LeninsBeard, hoping u can get linked up!

[-] DoomBloomDialectic@hexbear.net 6 points 1 day ago

did they never get back to you? or did they decide it wasn’t a good fit? if the former i would try and find organizing meetings, etc, in person and try to build irl relationships w/ members and express your interest in joining there. it’s easy for online applications to slip through the cracks due to spinning a lot of plates. there’s also just a lot of layers/vetting so patience is needed.

[-] LeninsBeard@hexbear.net 4 points 1 day ago

Wasn't not a good fit per se but I think they had other priorities at the time/were recruiting different neighborhoods in my area. They said they would keep me posted about events still but I never heard anything back after that and now I'm just super anxious to go to any of their stuff cuz I feel like I did something wrong lea-breakdown

But yeah you're probably right about it just being them juggling a lot. I should go to something again soon.

[-] DoomBloomDialectic@hexbear.net 2 points 13 hours ago

yeah i can't speak to your branch's recruitment needs b/c every local is slightly different, but it's very possible they were just prioritizing certain areas/demographics. but def hit someone back up! whenever a good volunteer-comrade fades away, our first thought after "a certain amount of volunteer churn is inevitable" is "damn, what are we not doing well enough when it comes to retention???" so there's a very good chance comrades near you are bummed that you fell off their radar and want you to come back!

also some of our most dedicated cadres were active friends of the party for years before becoming members, so try not to be discouraged! i do feel you though re: paranoia you did something wrong, serious political organizing can kinda be extreme exposure therapy if you're already rejection sensitive.

[-] CleverOleg@hexbear.net 20 points 1 day ago

I do not disagree with your analysis, but I do want to add a comment about the “credibility” point. In the US, I think the issue of undocumented persons is the most important issue strategically for a communist org or leftists in general to embrace. People understandably bemoan the lack of leftist support in the US. But they are also are looking at the lives of the top say 50-60% of the population. Also understandable - all of society is structured to make it seem like the middle class and wealthier is where like 95% of the population resides socioeconomically, and precarity and poverty are something only a small minority experience.

I believe there is tremendous revolutionary potential in the US, but the core of the that energy isn’t with people like myself - middle class white folks with an office job (obligatory “read Settlers”). It’s with the groups that experience super-exploitation and oppression: undocumented workers, African-Americans, LGBTQ folks, Muslim immigrants, etc. By standing in solidarity with undocumented persons, the PSL is right where it should be in terms of building trust and relationships in the communities with the most revolutionary potential.

Of course both things could be true - this could be bad for recruitment for them and also useful for their reputation.

[-] Lussy@hexbear.net 19 points 1 day ago

I would definitely join PSL if this happened. Shit, I might actually join now

[-] grandepequeno@hexbear.net 22 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

If what happened? If they're, like, banned or something or keep being persecuted?

[-] Lussy@hexbear.net 15 points 1 day ago

If they keep being persecuted

[-] grandepequeno@hexbear.net 12 points 1 day ago

Why not join now, if you can say, what's the difference?

The UnAmerican Activities Committee is reborn!

[-] kristina@hexbear.net 64 points 1 day ago

I will never recognize the state of Missouri

[-] SevenSkalls@hexbear.net 52 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I hope other people on the left can now recognize this as an effective org and it can build their credibility. But this might also scare people into not joining.

[-] BeamBrain@hexbear.net 19 points 1 day ago

When are we going to get an :its-afraid: emote

[-] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 39 points 1 day ago

Lmao and chuds want us to believe they're the ones oppressed by the state

I hope they don't lib out over this

[-] DogThatWentGorp@hexbear.net 62 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Josh Hawley is what happens when a poor farmer, desperate to be a father, wishes upon a falling star for a son. The star, pitying the poor farmer but lacking any foresight, granted the gift of life to a wilted stalk of racist celery.

[-] Moss@hexbear.net 32 points 1 day ago

New tagline please

[-] RedWizard@hexbear.net 22 points 1 day ago

For the low low price of $5 a month, you too can fund the downfall of the empire! Sign up now and get this commemorative PSL Mug, a $25 value, absolutely free!

[-] SpiderFarmer@hexbear.net 62 points 1 day ago

Damn, now I'm gonna donate even more to the PSL.

[-] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 19 points 1 day ago

Do they accept international donations?

[-] StalinIsMaiWaifu@lemmygrad.ml 21 points 1 day ago

Yes, how do you think we get our xi-bux

[-] RedWizard@hexbear.net 15 points 1 day ago

a lotta yall still don't get it

xi-bux holders can use multiple Il Sung juches on a single xi-bux

so if you have 1 comrade lenin xi-bux and 3 Il Sung juches you can create 3 new xi-bux

Tonight's Il Sung juche mint event is essentially a minting event for both PLS Donors and PLA Special Forces

[-] comrade_pibb@hexbear.net 9 points 1 day ago

Yes the day after Trump was elected how very pointed Mr. Committee on UnAmerican Activities who represent Missourii-am-adolf-hitler and sticking his nose in California's buisness. (Then again....collusion

congratulations PSL you are now a threat to fascism. Give them nothing.

[-] Llituro@hexbear.net 51 points 1 day ago

godspeed the PSL

[-] WizardOfLoneliness@hexbear.net 56 points 1 day ago

I hope nobody from the PSL goes to any sort of hearing like this just to get arrested. Like, again, the civil war has already begun, any response to this needs to come from deep within the Appalachian or rocky mountains

[-] RedWizard@hexbear.net 15 points 1 day ago

The Appalachian Insurgency will be our most enduring warriors.

[-] RedWizard@hexbear.net 23 points 1 day ago

Guess we're all on the watch list.

[-] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 20 points 1 day ago

You weren't already? 🥴

[-] Hestia@hexbear.net 34 points 1 day ago

Maybe we should ban the republicans for all the school shooters

[-] Assian_Candor@hexbear.net 10 points 1 day ago

That's not terrorism sweaty those are lone wolves

A pack of lone wolves

[-] Hestia@hexbear.net 5 points 1 day ago

If there’s so many lone wolfs then why can’t I get a wolf-gf doggirl-cry
