Elizabeth for girls.

Elizabeth, Eliza, Beth, Lizbeth, Liz, Lizzie, Lizard, Lisbian, Lisan Al Gaib, the options are endless.

Beth can be tricky because it can also be short for Bethany.

Jimothy sounds like one of those English sounding names that Chinese people like to give themselves. Like Samanfar

Wait wtf, the video I'm referencing is almost old enough to vote? God damn it I'm old.

[-] whats_all_this_then@programming.dev 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

What a delightful video :D
Samanfar took me a minute. I also approve of Smacker.

Is that your king / baron name?

i would go with the quaint yet dignified "Jimb"

[-] saltnotsugar@lemmy.world 11 points 3 days ago

I like the cut of your…Jimb.

[-] AmazingAwesomator@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

jimb can cause a chuckle in business meetings.

[-] bamboo@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 3 days ago

How about Jimp? Every friend group needs a Jimp.

Same with Robert.

Do you remain Robert?

Become boring Bob?

Rob with one b or Robb with two?

If you're feeling whimsical, is it Robby or Robbie?

[-] buddascrayon@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

Don't forget Bobby, Boberino, and the unsung classic Bert.

[-] ddplf@szmer.info 7 points 3 days ago

And if you're transitioning, you should probably avoid picking the name Margot

[-] Whats_your_reasoning@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Funny enough, Margot is part of a family of names that's even bigger than James and Robert.

Margot, Marjorie, Marge, Greta, Rita, Megan, Maggie, Gretchen, Maisie, Molly, Peggy... The uniting feature is that all of these names are considered variants of "Margaret," and this isn't even a comprehensive list.

[-] nyctre@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

Margherita and Margarita are my fav. Both delicious.

[-] ddplf@szmer.info 2 points 2 days ago

Oh wow, that's something! I didn't see most of these coming!

[-] bitchkat@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

I had a friend with one brother named Bob and another Rob. Neither was named Robert.

My grandfather was a James. He went by Pete.

[-] Bosht@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

I knew a Jimbo. Best friend for like half a decade. Dude def lived up to his name. Hope he's doing well.

[-] BingoBongoBang@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

Thank you, Gaylord 🤣

[-] N0t_5ure@lemmy.world 18 points 3 days ago

How about Jimbo, but with the "J" pronounced like an "H", as in Spanish.

[-] edgemaster72@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

Only if you also pronounce the i as you would in Spanish, Heembo

[-] ouRKaoS@lemmy.today 2 points 2 days ago

I'd go with Hi-May...

And spell it just like that.

[-] logicbomb@lemmy.world 14 points 3 days ago

James seems like the least nerdy of the names that have common nicknames. Richard is another one that's not nerdy.

William has it better. Will, Willy, Willis, Willie, Buddy, Bud, Bill, Billy, and Liam. Willa, Wilhemenia, Wilma, and Billie for the ladies.

[-] v4ld1z@lemmy.zip 6 points 3 days ago

Jimbo Jorker?

[-] Empricorn@feddit.nl 11 points 3 days ago
[-] ouRKaoS@lemmy.today 5 points 2 days ago

That's virtual insanity!

[-] kibiz0r@midwest.social 7 points 3 days ago

Knew a guy named James Jones. He went by Bob. For reasons.

[-] pyre@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

that's a good reason to go by Jamie. Jamie Jones sounds nice.

[-] Worx@lemmynsfw.com 4 points 3 days ago

Jamie Fookin Lannister

[-] SeaDawg@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

"Imagine if I had a name like Jimmy Recard" (Jimmy Recard from Drapht) is looping in my head now...

[-] Meron35@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

Actually, James is short for Jean Names

[-] ODuffer@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

In the UK at least, 'Jay' is also commonly used for James. Not a bad choice. In addition, James Bond would like word about 'Nerdy' !

[-] redwattlebird@lemmings.world 2 points 2 days ago

Dunno. Greg sounds more nerdy than James.

[-] LunaChocken@programming.dev 2 points 2 days ago

Greg

Gregtech. - a highly sophisticated automation heavy mod for Minecraft

[-] Jojowski@sopuli.xyz 4 points 3 days ago

Jam the man

[-] Fizz@lemmy.nz 3 points 3 days ago

The formal variant is Jame-o

[-] anomoly_@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

Okay, how about you're Jimmer, you're Jimmy, and you're Jim Bob. So you all get to be some version of Jim and we don't got to be in, fuckin... Cats.
