The van was a gas-powered vehicle that caught fire due to a malfunctioning engine, according to the fire department.

I mean, there's a reason why eg. in Poland it's mandatory to have a fire extinguisher in your car

One of my dad's Ford Mondeo cars in the 90s did this. He was sat in the parking lot, saw smoke coming out of the steering wheel and got out. 5 minutes later it was a fireball.

Don't forget Fieros aka the poor man's Ferrari. hahaha

Early 2000s GMs with the supercharged 3.8L V6 would occasionally do this, because hot oil from the supercharger would leak onto the fuel rail and exhaust manifold, and occasionally cause the engine bay to do its impression of the Branch Davidian compound in Waco, TX. There was also a separate issue with the induction pressure from the supercharger causing intake manifold gaskets to catastrophically fail and spew burning fuel/air mixture out the sides of the intake manifold, into places where you probably don't want your party's wizard to be casting Fireball.

Kind of amazing, seeing as how the 3800 Series II (with minor mods) and III V6 are about as close as an American manufacturer ever got to rivaling Toyota in terms of engine reliability.

I'm glad the driver wasn't physically injured and hope they aren't too traumatized.
