I'm sick this week, so I did this from my laptop instead of desktop. Hopefully there are no mistakes 🙏

Thanks for the great post! Dumb money being a flop was kind of expected

It's in the title, after all.

Holy shit there have been at least 10 Saw movies or did they butcher the name???

[-] ClarkZuckerberg@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Yes! This is the tenth movie in the Saw franchise.

  • Saw 1-6
  • Saw 3D
  • Jigsaw
  • Spiral
  • Saw X

Any guesses how ridiculous Taylor Swift's weekend numbers get? I'm not much of a movie goer but these posts are fun.

[-] ClarkZuckerberg@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

I’m taking a stab at $120 million domestic. I think most people going opening weekend will already have their tickets.

It isn't a draw for me in the slightest, but the historic interest in her tour is still an interesting phenomenon

What does weekend x mean? Why is the left and right number sometimes the same and sometimes not? What is "WW"?

[-] HeartyOfGlass@lemm.ee 10 points 1 year ago

What does weekend X mean?

It's the movie's 2nd+ weekend in theaters.

What is the left and right number sometimes the same?

Right column shows total, left shows just the latest weekend. It's only the same if it's the film's first weekend.

What is "WW"?

"Worldwide".

What does weekend x mean?

I'm assuming it's weekends since premiere. Weekend 1 would be the weekend it comes out, weekend 2 would be the following weekend, etc. The left column is just measuring week by week and not all of the movies came out at the same time.

Why is the left and right number sometimes the same and sometimes not?

If a movie is on weekend 1 then the total is just whatever it has earned in this first weekend, so they'd match. Movies that have been out longer will have higher totals than the week being measured.

What is "WW"?

Worldwide, I'm assuming. So the top number would be domestic total and the bottom number would be domestic+international.

This whole thing is far from great information design. Appreciate the effort, though.

[-] cd_slash_rmrf@programming.dev 3 points 1 year ago

I dunno, I think weekend X is pretty clear in the context of movie releases (and really, so is the idea of a cumulative total on the right)

[-] Rodneyck@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago

Not good numbers for Hollywood. Still proving my point, these figures are unsustainable for theaters to stay open.

[-] Squizzy@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

My God I am out of the game ,I barely recognised these movies and didn't know any of them were being released
