There were two “Reigns of Terror,” if we would but remember it and consider it; the one wrought murder in hot passion, the other in heartless cold blood; the one lasted mere months, the other had lasted a thousand years; the one inflicted death upon ten thousand persons, the other upon a hundred millions; but our shudders are all for the “horrors” of the minor Terror, the momentary Terror, so to speak; whereas, what is the horror of swift death by the axe, compared with lifelong death from hunger, cold, insult, cruelty, and heart-break? What is swift death by lightning compared with death by slow fire at the stake? A city cemetery could contain the coffins filled by that brief Terror which we have all been so diligently taught to shiver at and mourn over; but all France could hardly contain the coffins filled by that older and real Terror—that unspeakably bitter and awful Terror which none of us has been taught to see in its vastness or pity as it deserves.

If you have evidence of Israeli crimes and atrocities that you wish to preserve, there is a thread here in which to do so.

Sources on the fighting in Palestine against Israel. In general, CW for footage of battles, explosions, dead people, and so on:

English-language Palestinian Marxist-Leninist twitter account.

Various sources that are covering the Ukraine conflict are also covering the one in Palestine, like Rybar.

Resources For Understanding The War

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful.

Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.

Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.

Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.

On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Telegram Channels

Again, CW for anti-LGBT and racist, sexist, etc speech, as well as combat footage.

Pro-Russian

https://t.me/aleksandr_skif ~ DPR's former Defense Minister and Colonel in the DPR's forces. Russian language.

https://t.me/Slavyangrad ~ A few different pro-Russian people gather frequent content for this channel (~100 posts per day), some socialist, but all socially reactionary. If you can only tolerate using one Russian telegram channel, I would recommend this one.

https://t.me/s/levigodman ~ Does daily update posts.

https://t.me/patricklancasternewstoday ~ Patrick Lancaster's telegram channel.

https://t.me/gonzowarr ~ A big Russian commentator.

https://t.me/rybar ~ One of, if not the, biggest Russian telegram channels focussing on the war out there. Actually quite balanced, maybe even pessimistic about Russia. Produces interesting and useful maps.

https://t.me/epoddubny ~ Russian language.

https://t.me/boris_rozhin ~ Russian language.

https://t.me/mod_russia_en ~ Russian Ministry of Defense. Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a 'propaganda tax', if you don't believe them. Does not cover everything, for obvious reasons, and virtually never details Russian losses.

https://t.me/UkraineHumanRightsAbuses ~ Pro-Russian, documents abuses that Ukraine commits.

Pro-Ukraine

Almost every Western media outlet.

https://discord.gg/projectowl ~ Pro-Ukrainian OSINT Discord.

https://t.me/ice_inii ~ Alleged Ukrainian account with a rather cynical take on the entire thing.

Rybar Sitrep:

spoiler

🔻North direction: ▪️ Fighting continues in the Zikim area after another Palestinian landing. An episode of friendly fire occurred between IDF fighters near Kibbutz Karmiya. ▪️ The Israelis have managed to stabilize the situation in Sderot, but sporadic clashes continue in the surrounding area. ▪️ Hamas launches rocket attacks on Ashkelon and Ashdod.

🔻Eastern direction: ▪️According to some reports, the IDF managed to regain control of Beeri. Attacks continue on populated areas east of Gaza, including Netivot. ▪️ Hamas said that they had reached the city of Rahat, 30 kilometers east of Gaza. The Israelis announced the destruction of the militants and posted confirming footage.

🔻South direction: The situation along the southern borders of Gaza is still unknown. Judging by the almost complete absence of reports from the field, there is practically no activity in this area.

🔻 West Bank: ▪️Calls are spreading across the region for young people to take to the streets and attack Israelis. Riots break out throughout the area. ▪️ There were exchanges of fire between the IDF and the Palestinians in Jalama and near the Har Gerzim settlement.

🔻Border with Lebanon: ▪️In response to shelling from Lebanese territory, Israel launched attacks on the settlements of Aita al-Shaab, Marwakhin, Az-Zalutiya, Ad-Duheira, Yarun. Hezbollah targets were hit. ▪️ According to unconfirmed reports, one of the Hezbollah field commanders , Abdul Hamid Shari, was killed. ▪️ The Lebanese Islamic Jihad faction claimed responsibility for the incursion from Lebanon.

🔻 Gaza Strip: ▪️The Israeli Air Force is launching mass attacks on Gaza, including destroying key economic and social facilities. The Rimal district, where the top Hamas was based, was destroyed. ▪️ The representative of the military wing of Hamas, Abu Ubaida, promised to execute captured Israelis for every house destroyed without warning in Gaza.

Current Rybar sitrep:

spoiler

Near the Gaza Strip, clashes continue between the Palestinian militants still remaining on Israeli territory and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

The Israeli military-political leadership has announced plans to completely destroy Hamas and is talks with the opposition to create a single emergency government to legitimize its actions in the fight against the groups.

🔻North direction:

▪️ In recent hours, sporadic fighting took place in Zikim and Sderot, and paratroopers from the Tsankhanim brigade arrived in the area. In Shaar HaNegev, there were exchanges of fire with scattered groups of militants, who managed to kill at least four Israeli soldiers.

▪️ IDF fighters intercepted the militants near Kibbutz Kfar Az, preventing them from entering the village.

🔻Eastern direction:

▪️There are shootouts in the villages of Alumim and Nirim. Information about local battles is confirmed from time to time by IDF reports of the liquidation of one or two militants.

▪️ Small groups of Palestinian militia members on motorcycles move between small settlements and try to create the effect of a wide presence along the front line.

Yet the massive presence of Palestinians in Israel's border towns appears to be waning.

🔻 Massive shelling:

▪️From yesterday evening until now, the Israeli Air Force has been carrying out mass strikes on targets in the Gaza Strip.

And this is partly true - given the density of the population in Gaza, it is quite difficult not to hit civilians.

▪️ In response, Hamas fired a volley into Ashkelon and other cities. Several strikes hit Jerusalem, Rishon Lezion and Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv.

▪️Israeli air defense has certain difficulties in intercepting missiles. After the third day of salvoes , the Iron Dome system misses more and more missiles, and more and more hits are recorded, leading to casualties.

At the same time, rumors are spreading about an impending shortage of air defense missiles in Israel, the basis for which just yesterday was given by the statement of a request (https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2023/10/08/israel-gaza-strikes-hamas-netanyahu/#link-PK4KJJAFDBDTJCC6ID56HHD2CE) to the United States to provide anti-aircraft missiles.

🔻 West Bank:

In the West Bank, after large-scale protests and clashes, the situation calmed down somewhat as the day wore on. However, operations by Israeli security forces and attacks by Palestinians continue there as well.

▪️ In Dotan and Harmish there was a shootout in the morning, and in Nablus there were rallies and clashes, including with the use of weapons. In the north, in the Tulkarm and Netzani Oz region, protests and clashes continue, although full-fledged street battles have not yet reached.

Against the backdrop of the events of the past day, it can be assumed that with the onset of darkness, Arab youth will again take to the streets of the cities of the West Bank.

Al-Akhbar Lebanese newspaper:

The #Gaza resistance informed the resistance groups outside Palestine that its missile force is capable of dealing with the enemy for a long period of time and that the readiness for ground war is also excellent.

Hamas announced that it has sent only 2,000 fighters to war and still has 40,000 more fighters in the Gaza Strip.

It's truly amazing how easily it is to find sanctimonious, self-righteous people who clowned themselves.

The only reason I'm not shocked by the banality and acceptability of antisemitism in western society is because I just spent a year writing a book about the banality and acceptability of antisemitism in western society. A lot of people are showing their true colors this week.

Nitter

Multiple sources at different news outlets have confirmed that Hamas beheaded babies and children. They've seen it. The numbers might not be known for sure, but it happened.

Nitter

On Nitter I first searched his account for gazans and then gazan but somehow that had zero results. I think Nitter only goes back 1,000 results. And he has 59k tweets. I wonder what I'd find if I went all the way back to 2009

---

It reminds me of redditors who seemed to be utterly shocked by the fact that I spent a couple miunutes after I clicked their name and checked their history to find recent stuff they wrote so I could quote it back to them. Often they'd accuse me of being creepy and/or "doxxing" them.

I've read that Twain quote many times, but is the book it's from, A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court, worth reading? It seems interesting.

Irish news RTE gives the Israeli ambassador a hard time. I would clip it but I don't know how to clip RTE. If anyone does know how please do because I can use it elsewhere.

https://www.rte.ie/player/series/prime-time/SI0000000825

Interview starts around 28:00

The full segment on Palestine starts at 19:25 but it's really only the ambassador interview that's interesting.

Netanyahu (real name Mileikowsky) just concluded a secret discussion in the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee of the Knesset regarding the war. According to zionist sources, the committee approved Defense Minister Gantz's declaration of Order No. 8 (i.e emergency wartime call-up), general mobilization, and the declaration of a state of emergency.

Earlier today, the Knesset approved a new emergency government, replacing all of its ministers under the leadership.

Anyone know the implications of this? Or an article on it?

13 hostages killed in Israel’s attacks on Gaza Strip, Hamas says. No confirmation from Israel | AP News

Hamas said Israel’s bombardment has killed 13 of the hostages, including foreigners.

It did not give the nationality of the foreigners, saying they were killed over the last 24 hours. There was no immediate Israeli comment.

Just a theory but the massive false alarm yesterday in Israel's north that was called a "technical error" actually strikes me as an intentional full scale test of their entire system.

Probably wanted to test it was working in all areas and didn't want to jump through all the hoops of announcing a test first.
