I don't know what a Mind War Accounts is and am uncertain if I should answer. Please send help.

It is a skill I possess and deploy as needed

Not very. I'm autistic. I'm usually okay with people I know but it's hard with new people. At my job we had a secret shopper and I got marked down for not making eye contact. I wanted to inflict violence upon that person. Wish I knew who they were. Also, I don't owe them shit. No one is entitled to eye contact from me or anyone else.

I make a lot of eye contact.

FWIW, it’s a sign of autism. You may just be autie.

The fuck is a mind war account

I'm terrible at eye contact I can either have awful eye contact and actually hear the conversation or I can have perfect eye contact and not hear a word the person says

[-] sprite0@sh.itjust.works 10 points 3 days ago

i can do it but it tends to use up a pretty big chunk of my conscious

[-] truite@jlai.lu 3 points 3 days ago

same, but when I do it I usually do it a little too much or too intense

[-] tastemyglaive@lemmy.ml 3 points 3 days ago

Do you think they can tell

[-] sprite0@sh.itjust.works 4 points 3 days ago

depends on the circumstances and my energy levels but sometimes sure

it's frustrating as hell in job interviews trying to make positive eye contact and be able to think properly

[-] SocialMediaRefugee@lemmy.ml 5 points 3 days ago

I have to force myself to look at the person I'm talking to because some people want eye contact. I find it distracting and I find it easier to focus on what we're talking about if I look aside from them.

[-] SpicyTaint@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

That's the neat part. I don't!

[-] davel@lemmy.ml 4 points 3 days ago

Is this one of those you are now breathing manually tricks? Because I’m virtually never conscious of this.

[-] tastemyglaive@lemmy.ml 2 points 3 days ago

I suppose it could be

[-] dingus@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

I'm generally pretty good at it when I am comfortable with someone. But when I am anxious or sad I cannot for the life of me make eye contact with anyone.

[-] electric_nan@lemmy.ml 1 points 3 days ago

I don't really have a problem with it. If you do (and you haven't already heard this tip), try focusing right between their eyes. From their perspective you are making eye contact, and from yours it may be enough to lessen the discomfort.

[-] Archangel1313@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 days ago

I am immediately aware of how uncomfortable this makes people...so, I try not to do it very often.

[-] fluxion@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

Horrible. I'm in my own little world usually. Sometimes if I'm in a super good mood I'll acknowledge people and nod etc. but otherwise it's just a glance to make sure we're not on a collision course and im not walking toward an axe murderer.

[-] Kevo@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

Good when I'm listening, bad when I'm talking. Ive been trained by years of online gaming to not look at people while I talk

[-] proudblond@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

I’m good at it. But, at the same time, I live in a pretty diverse area and I’ve met plenty of people who are clearly not super comfortable with it. So it’s an interesting balancing act to do it enough to be showing respect but not so much that I creep them out. Mostly I take my cues from their own eye contact levels.

I hate it. I don't personally want any eye contact, so I don't know how much eye contact is the right amount, and I end up making brief eye contact because I know I should, then looking away because it's uncomfortable and I don't want it to be too much. And I lose my train of thought in the process. It's so much easier to talk to people if I can look in their general direction but not in their eyes.

[-] robocall@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

I think I have a good balance of eye contact and eye aversion for most social situations. And can gauge quickly what someone else's comfort with it is. I do frequently look to the ceiling when thinking (literally looking for answers or a response) so it doesn't look like I'm staring or glaring at someone while my mind buffers.

[-] SocialMediaRefugee@lemmy.ml 1 points 3 days ago

I stare without blinking...

[-] venusaur@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

I never break eye contact and even follow their head with my own to meet their gaze. I think people respond well to it.
