Good news for nicotine addicts but Juul devices are re-usable but the pods aren't which still create a ton of plastic waste.

Good news for addicts!

As a former smoker and a lover of drugs, nicotine is one of the dumbest drugs that you could consume.

Nicotine is awesome for the first few months and then your body adapts and you literally get nothing out of it. Even if you take a break your receptors never reset so it's really one of those single use drugs.

I mean I enjoyed the hell out of it when I smoked. Love a cigarette and black coffee.

[-] womjunru@lemmy.cafe 2 points 1 week ago

Yes but that’s not the nicotine. That’s the smoke and the coffee and the relaxing and all that stuff. Which… yes is how I got started haha. But nicotine itself… nothing good, and lots of bad.

[-] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Yeah the nicotine makes you just feel like you are dying.

[-] womjunru@lemmy.cafe 1 points 1 week ago

I eventually went to those mints which are basically nicotine candy. I was eating them like… well, candy. When I quit those, my resting heartbeat went from 80 to ~55.

But of all the drugs I’ve ever done, nicotine is the only one where I still want it.

Yeah, you smell that secondhand smoke and no matter how many years it's been, it's got that magnetic appeal, like the smell of a nicely seared steak.

Same. I still want a cigarette and its been way more than 10 years.

What the hell are you on about? Nicotine is not bad for you.

[-] womjunru@lemmy.cafe 0 points 1 week ago

Paid for by Big Nicotine ya dummy. There is overwhelming evidence to the contrary. But if you look hard enough, you can always find text on the Internet that aligns with the viewpoint that you want to have, regardless of its accuracy

[-] SupraMario@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago

That's Vanderbilt University...the fuck? There are tons of other studies that show it's being researched for a net gain.

What about that one?

[-] womjunru@lemmy.cafe 0 points 1 week ago

Caffeine isn’t good for you either, if we want to be pedantic. You can “the fuck,” all you want but showing how a bad thing is like another bad thing doesn’t make it a good thing.

[-] SupraMario@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Did...did you even read any of the links I posted? Apparently not...things aren't bad just because you say they are... uranium can blow us all up or provide energy for us. The sun... literally is killing us when we go outside, but it grows our food and provides us a habitable temperature to survive in. Why is your brain so black and white...

Nicotine is well known to have serious systemic side effects in addition to being highly addictive. It adversely affects the heart, reproductive system, lung, kidney etc. Many studies have consistently demonstrated its carcinogenic potential.

Nicotine isn't the issue and no it is not carcinogenic. The burning of tobacco is.

Its a very powerful stimulant and great for focus enhancement.

Aren't these full of lead?

[-] cm0002@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Juul devices are re-usable but the pods aren't which still create a ton of plastic waste.

Juuls/pod systems/"disposable" ones are, but there are plenty of options that are fully rebuild-able. RTA/RDA on a classic mod for example.

Idk why so many abandoned the classic mods, they are so much cooler, I had one with Bluetooth and LEDs back in the day LMAO.

Ig that "just works" aspect of the pods was as addictive as the nicotine :/

[-] drmoose@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Yeah i used to smoke refills - it's so easy and a bottle would last me for months. You can also mix flavors and cola + any fruit (like cola lichee) was my go to!

[-] TheFogan@programming.dev 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Not really sure what's happened for that as well, as myself one who still uses an RTA and a mod. The local vape shop in my area went under... so now basically it's ordering online as the only option. But even so the cost effectiveness is overwhelming.

Honestly I think it's simply the fact that, nice mods etc... last years... my RTA with about 15 bucks worth of cotton and wire, has held me up for over 2 years. $30 of liquid can last me 2 months easily. Meanwhile I'm seeing people buying disposables that last about 3 days for $25.

I assume that's basically what happened though, stores are incentivized to encourage things that bring lots of re-occuring income. I'd have to say it's the same as the reason why almost everyone uses inkjet printers instead of lasers.

Half the reason I started vaping was because I couldn't care less about killing myself, but spending $7 a day on a pack of cigs, was adding up fast.

I’m still hooked on nicotine. These days I mix my own juice, use refillable pods that last me a good month with two rechargeable batteries that I swap between. It’s very cheap when one does it this way. Quitting is obviously the best way to go, and believe me I’ve tried, but I keep coming back.

I’ve given up opiates, coke, and weed. But dropping nicotine is a real bitch.

I call BS. Is FDA compromised like other US agencies? Check who bought stock before this support.

[-] Jimmycakes@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Obviously.

Juul is owned by Philip Morris they were there when lobbying was invented

[-] resipsaloquitur@lemmy.world -1 points 1 week ago

There was a recent report that they’re worse than actual cigarettes, but okay.

[-] drmoose@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Big doubt on that statement bruh
