Rats are cool. They’re like little dogs, can be potty trained, learn tricks and like to cuddle.
They also develop cancer like no other species. You feel a limp on a rat and 3 hours later it’s a tumor the size of a bean.
The very reason we're so good at treating cancer in rats.

Pet rats aren't dirty.
Butts are only dirty before the enema, after that it's bearable. Still not recommended for the immunodefficiant, but otherwise a healthy human can deal with what they can get from booty licking, others probably should use a dental dam at minimum.
