The suspect was identified Sunday as 42-year-old Bradford James Gille, according to Grand Traverse County Sheriff Michael D. Shea.

i've been to traverse city. it's not large, but it's like the sort of smallish-coastal town with a shitload of short term rentals, because summer time is tourism season and it's proximate to a lot of recreational shit. the township where this happened is like the sprawly suburban appendage of T-city with like trailer parks and shit. so probably where many of the people bringing tourists their fudge and cleaning up after them live, but also a good amount of detached single family homes for the managers and landlords to be nearby, and even some farmland under likely severe development pressure.
the perfect location for a super walmart, where class tensions can simmer.

I was last there in ~2017, but Traverse City is one of the whitest places I've ever visited.
It manages to be nice in spite of this... Until you get a mile outside of the city area, you'll see stars and bars Q flags on every other collapsing double wide with "trespassers will be shot" signs at the end of their driveway. The city has a lot of progressive libs in it, and it's where Michael Moore is from, def worse towns in the state.
