Meanwhile, here in Europe, we signed a one-way deal to buy energy from the US. That sound like a shit deal

Uh oh. Incoming ramble post from the pedophile in chief threatening tariffs and war.

[-] eldavi@lemmy.ml 13 points 1 day ago

he did that last week. lol

[-] Deflated0ne@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

He does 2 or 3 a day. Based entirely on Fox News Headlines.

It is a tactic, when the other doesn't know when you're being serious about your threats, you don't know when to actually defend.

Best not to underestimate him.

i think we overestimate him. the us' ability to hurt other countries was shown to be lacking when trump tried and failed to bully other countries economically. and then their altercations with iran and russia have shown them to be militarily weaker than everyone imagined.

it is a problem to deal with if you are a weak colony but i still don't think its getting to that.

I prefer to overestimate a buffoon one time too much than to be overran by a buffoon through underestimation.

i think this strategy of bravado is precisely for intimidation and obfuscation of what they are capable of. its still very much scary and dangerous, mind you, but its not as hopeless as some say.

they have already shown a few times they aren't as strong as everyone thought. i believe other countries have a good estimation of what the us is capable of at this point.

Juan Guaidó has been recently spotted with hope in his eyes. Witnesses report that he was whispering "put me in, coach".

Good move; but Brazil should protect itself too, and combat a possible US-backed coup d'état.

the us tried to coup us recently, most of the directly involved are being tried. even bolsonaro is getting arrested soon.

that's not to say we are now free from another attempt because our military is still powerful and just as treacherous, but we are doing what we can be doing about it atm and lula's stern attitude towards the us lately is encouraging.

Actually prosecuting the perpetrators rather than giving olive-branch after olive-branch like Biden did seems far more effective at reducing the risk of another coup (or electoral comeback based on claims the courts are being weaponized since they're no conviction to point at).

[-] umbrella@lemmy.ml 1 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago)

yeah, they will make those claims anyway though so might as well just let the judges do their work for a change.

but also, it would be far too shameful for them at this point to just let the incompetent bolsonarist uprising slide. the fascists sounded like they barely had an idea of what they were getting into, it was way too dumb and shameless. they've been given an olive branch and were too stupid to take it before it got this bad.

the only way to prevent that is to get paranoid and start arresting/executing your staff/cabinet; every time that happens, the country gets managed worse and then your people overthrow you themselves.
