They can always move to Dehli, "Delhi recorded an all-time high temperature of 52.9 degrees Celsius (128 Fahrenheit)."

Arizona is going to become uninhabitable in our lifetimes

[-] WrongOnTheInternet@hexbear.net 14 points 1 day ago

Y'all just need to live in the dirt

Playing Dwarf Fortress on my A.I-powered Alienware desktop in my Tatooine salt cave with my allotted electricity where the moisture on the walls satisfies my electrolytes and water cravings.

No, just Phoenix and Tucson. The Arizona high country to the north has much lower temps than those main cities.

So first, Phoenix and Tucson will invade the Verde valley and Sedona, then move on to Flagstaff. Then they'll move out of state.

Once the water runs out, the temperatures don't matter. Basically the entire population of the state depends on either Lake Mead or wells, and neither of those is going to outlast my lifetime

Arizona uses ~3.5 million Olympic sized swimming pools of water a year, mostly for farming silly crops

The future earth is hot and wet, on average

[-] CommCat@hexbear.net 13 points 1 day ago

I read they also use a whole lot of water for intensive alfafa farming to sell to the Middle East, gotta love capitalism

We're going to experience climate refugee migrations of millions in our lifetimes

[-] Bartsbigbugbag@lemmy.ml 2 points 21 hours ago* (last edited 21 hours ago)

Parable of the Sower style herds of people walking up the freeways to the north, where they’re met with guns but those who don’t want to share their already limited resources, all while being assaulted, robbed, and murdered along the way

[-] CeliacMcCarthy@hexbear.net 18 points 1 day ago

already well into the millions

[-] BountifulEggnog@hexbear.net 16 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

[-] WrongOnTheInternet@hexbear.net 3 points 1 day ago

[-] KuroXppi@hexbear.net 23 points 1 day ago

Jfc every day? When it's above 40 for three consecutive days here that's considered catastrophic conditions, I can't imagine a whole month

Where I used to live, temps at night would be around that temp. Sucks.

There's a lot of retirees in Arizona

edit: Though if I'd read the article:

Unhoused people account for 40% of deaths, while substance misuse contributed to two-thirds.

[-] keepcarrot@hexbear.net 17 points 1 day ago

Definitely do not want to be hungover in 43 degree heat o_O

[-] RedSailsFan@hexbear.net 15 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

2/3s of homeless or 2/3s of all deaths?

[-] Crucible@hexbear.net 11 points 1 day ago

2/3 of all deaths, it's worded strangely

[-] footfaults@lemmygrad.ml 23 points 1 day ago
[-] RedSailsFan@hexbear.net 12 points 1 day ago

i mean this is true but it requires you to drink an incredible amount of water, and even then it's very dangerous for the very young, old, homeless, etc.

[-] keepcarrot@hexbear.net 15 points 1 day ago

It gets like that here too, though usually only for a few weeks across summer. It will likely get worse. I dread it

[-] CeliacMcCarthy@hexbear.net 15 points 1 day ago

[-] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 4 points 1 day ago

Leading Causes of Death in AZ in 2024...

We continued to have far more heat related deaths than we had just a few years ago – had another dramatic jump in heat-related deaths in 2023 – moving that cause of death up to number 12 (742 deaths in 2024).
