Got to act 3 silksong as blind as you can be while still being online.

First gauntlet has me closing the game. I don't have time for this shit now random enemies can delete half the healthbar I spent hours improving in one mistake? Even that first runback blows, I don't get a chance to practice on them in a low stakes situation? Nah fuck it.

GMS was good though, not quite the radiance and reusing the animation from HK seems a bit uncreative :( challenging the sun was such a special moment.

Now to find a different game.

Act 3 seems more tedious than fun for me - I want to see the bosses but random enemies getting 1.5x health and 2x damage? Euugh

[-] Blep@hexbear.net 7 points 1 week ago

Still silking it, the requirements to get to the next stage of the game is kinda comical

been playing the new ea skate the last few days. its free to play but also VERY free to play with cash stores galore and all cosmetics are in random loot boxes you open by playing the games challenges. Gameplay wise it plays almost exactly like the skate games from like 15 years ago and I was so bad at those controls after playing Skater XL for so long with its 2 stick foot controls. I will say though that its the first skateboarding video game to finally have a good animation for running and throwing your board down instead of just pushing to get speed from a stop.

I also got into the '83 playtest (cold war gone hot fps game made by the ppl who did rising storm 2: vietnam) but was approved just as the current playtest was ending so I didnt get a chance to try it. reading what others have said about it it sounds rough and not looking good if they really want a q4 2025 release.

[-] godlessworm@hexbear.net 4 points 1 week ago

i played tf out of the skate playtests back before it hit early access recently. the controls are hard coming from skater XL but you get used to them. i find the game has its ups and downs. i just wish skater xl wasnt all but abandoned by easy day. the best base for a skateboarding game i’ve ever played(modded on pc) but its basically a tech demo

Been trying out different ds games on the melonds emulator. If anyone wants my friend code for Wild World let me know.

[-] Thordros@hexbear.net 6 points 1 week ago

OH, COME ON! Seriously?!

[-] FunkyStuff@hexbear.net 5 points 1 week ago

Got tired of PoE2 turning into a slideshow in abysses, costing me the map and 10% xp in the mid 90s, so I decided to go back to Dyson Sphere. I'm about to go interstellar.

[-] GoebbelsDeezNuts@hexbear.net 3 points 1 week ago

I was assuming performance and optimization were going to be prioritized in PoE2. I was wrong.

[-] FunkyStuff@hexbear.net 1 points 1 week ago

It's mostly fine, but it really seems like some particular effects in Abyss really lag out my PC in particular. I don't know if it's a problem with Vulkan, the fact I'm running it in Proton, some shader cache stuff, or what.

[-] 9to5@hexbear.net 5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I have started reading Absolute Batman. Its fun.

On the gaming side im waiting for Endless Legend 2 to drop into early access this Monday hope it turns out good when it hits Version 1.0

Did the fourth palace in Persona 5 Royal and I think the JRPG combat is starting to wear on me. Due to the time management system, you're incredibly incentivized to do each excursion to a palace/mementos in a single giant session, and then spend the next 20+ game days just doing social bonds (finished the 4th on July 28th and it's due on August 21st). 98% of the fights are with trash mobs you ambush and can kill before they act (and due to the Camera Strap accessory you get 10 of for free, you have effectively infinite SP so long as you keep ambushing people). The remaining 2% are with bosses that have no weaknesses that are just kinda a slog. Then for the social bonds, you're heavily encouraged to gaslight every confidant, which is funny but probably not what was intended, and this is again doubly true because choosing the wrong answer/not equipping a persona/not getting the fortune teller buff just means that you're wasting time. The fact that dialogue choices don't matter at all narratively (except, presumably, for the romantic ones) makes this feel even worse.

Meanwhile, in Warframe, Plague Star is almost over and I got around 70 forma. Could've been more, could've been less, but man is it boring.

[-] ryven@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I always assumed the "gaslight everyone" thing was intentional—that the true power of the wild card was to always be able to play the role that will draw out the aspects of their confidantes' personality that most strongly resonate with their Arcana. This is the power that makes the protagonists the most powerful Persona users, more important (edit: or maybe equally as important) than the ability to bond with any persona.

[-] barrbaric@hexbear.net 3 points 1 week ago

I can see where you're coming from, but it still feels odd to me that it goes (so far, at least) unaddressed in the narrative. Seems like a pretty important thing to discuss, and kind of an indictment of the MC if they don't mention to their friends that their relationship is extremely questionable because there is actual material utility in befriending someone, even if you, as the player, dislike them.

Mind you I haven't played any other Persona games, so maybe this gets addressed in other places and you're expected to be familiar. I'm just reminded of

spoilers for Disco Elysiumthe conversation with Harry's ex where she complains that he speaks in dialogue trees.

Silksong act 3 wow my thumbs hurt and as a sweaty handed individual, i dont think my controller is surviving this game.

[-] ChestRockwell@hexbear.net 5 points 1 week ago

Wow I'm still just enjoying act 2 (going all over - I think I'm at the end of it). The sweat is real tho.

[-] ryepunk@hexbear.net 3 points 1 week ago

The act 3 demands on your thumbs are very real. It's been incredibly fun though. I spent like 4 hours on one boss and had a blast figuring it out.

I forgot I picked up Black Mesa, and so I'm grabbing my crowbar and romping through this cursed facility for the 50th time. This isn't even my first Black Mesa playthrough; I remember playing it before the Xen was released and ~~before Valve bought the team~~ it went up on Steam. I'm about halfway through, and it's gorgeous so far. I turned the difficulty all the way up just to relive the tension, and boy howdy do the enemies pancake me if I'm not careful. The Half-Life series are some of my comfort games.

Maybe I'll pick up my HL2E2 Hard Gnome run again...but I'm so tired of schlepping the gnome in the car. All the Striders and Hunters just rip me apart when I'm near the final facility. I'm so close, and it seems so far...

[-] Wheaties@hexbear.net 3 points 1 week ago

wait what, team crowbar is now part of Valve?

[-] ChaosMaterialist@hexbear.net 3 points 1 week ago

My bad, I meant before it was on Steam. I've caught the dumb columbo-donk

[-] Wheaties@hexbear.net 3 points 1 week ago
[-] batsforpeace@hexbear.net 2 points 1 week ago

good idea to raise the difficulty on a replay, might do that too, played hl1 a few times over the years but never got as far as the xen levels lol

[-] ChaosMaterialist@hexbear.net 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Raising the difficulty definitely helps linear set-piece-heavy games, otherwise I memorize the encounters and cheese through it. The first big combat encounter with the marines is a good showcase of the better AI. I got mushed more than a dozen times. The Vortigaunts are harder too because they do a sideways strafe like the Elites from Halo, almost guaranteeing I miss my first shot.

Xen was a bit of a shitshow in the original Half-Life. The developers admitted it was rushed, and it plays poorly compared to what you did throughout the rest of the game. The long-jumping-over-infinite-pits is what we remember, and a boss fight that was... something. I'm very curious what the Crowbar team have done with the setting.

That said, my poor shotgun! NOOOOO What do you mean it's more balanced and not the god weapon that carries me through the whole game?!

[-] Wmill@hexbear.net 4 points 1 week ago

LAD Gaiden realizing how short it actually is compared to a regular game. I'm still trying to do all the amon fights for each of these games and this one is taking a while

[-] Dort_Owl@hexbear.net 4 points 1 week ago

I haven't had much time for games anymore, but I've slowly been making my way through The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles when insomnia strikes. It's surprisingly well written.

[-] Horse@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 1 week ago

Yet more mechwarrior 5 mercs, still not made it to the new dlc, still having a lot of fun getting there

played the demo for digimon stories time stranger, looking forward to when it comes out on the 2nd

[-] wideopenarms@hexbear.net 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Still playing elite dangerous, sort of grinding for a corvette I guess. But I've been playing a little less to make time for No, I'm Not Human and Fellowship.

First playthrough of no I'm not human was interesting, but it feels kinda grindy playing through again for more endings - I've only got bad endings so far. Trying not to spoil it for myself by watching streams though.

Fellowship open beta has been interesting. I can see it being a great replacement for wow mythic+, something I've missed a lot since quitting wow because of bds labeling Microsoft as a boycott target. I think they'll need to flesh some stuff out a bit more, but I'm cautiously optimistic for early access next month I suppose.

Speaking of wow, been considering finally picking up Turtle wow after they got sued by blizz. Tbh I'm not a fan of the classic era of wow and definitely wasn't a fan of classic wow becoming an official part of the game - its in the past, leave it there imo. But I'm still intrigued by the idea of expanding on the lore themselves on a private server no less.

Dwarf fortress time

My fort is going so well I'm kinda bored. Give me ideas for fun.

[-] ChaosMaterialist@hexbear.net 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Juggling your invaders.

You have two entrances, each with the typical maze of traps. During an invasion, you close one entrance and leave the other open. When enemies successfully get through your gauntlet, close the door and open the other, forcing them to go over your trap maze again to get out. Juggle them between each entrance until the invasion is over.

I just hope your lever pulling dwarves are reliable...

[-] Emanuel@hexbear.net 1 points 1 week ago

Build magma mines (I guess they become lava by then). Always wanted to do that, have never had the patience to do so.

I wish I was less of a Dwarf Fortess poser. I love it so much, but I always find it difficult to sit down and play.

[-] LeZero@hexbear.net 3 points 1 week ago

I restarted Metal Gear Solid V and I intend to finish it this time, just rescued Huey "Piece of Shit" Emmerich and kidnapping random Soviet paratroopers in the mountains of Afghanistan

[-] Rojo27@hexbear.net 3 points 1 week ago

Been playing less, but still playing Expedition 33. Was thinking of picking up Red Faction, but not quite yet. Same with Legend of Dragoon, which I've set up an emulator for.

[-] makotech222@hexbear.net 3 points 1 week ago

Last week, played through Dying Light 2, which I thought was pretty awful, so I mostly sped through it. I downloaded Dying Light The Beast this weekend, saddened to see its just as awful. Extremely boring protag, extremely boring plot (can we please stop making the main villain named 'the colonel', or 'the baron', so fucking lazy)

I really only enjoyed dead island 1 in the series, sad i won't be getting that experience again.

Otherwise, looking forward to this week getting Stellaris DLC and Vic3 DLC on monday and tuesday, respectively.

[-] bigpharmasutra@hexbear.net 3 points 1 week ago

Working my way through my PS+ sub I decided to finally try out Returnal. I'm not used to these types of shooting games and this is absolutely kicking my ass. The gameplay is pretty interesting and the look and sound of the game are awesome. Coupled with the sci-fi element and you've got yourself a winner.

[-] Runcible@hexbear.net 3 points 1 week ago

Still kinda poking at Deadzone Rogue, got a friend into it and it is fun in a group but I don't feel like it scales correctly. Probably needed to add more mobs than it does. Starting to transfer over into Shape of Dreams, early in it but seems pretty promising so far.

[-] tombruzzo@hexbear.net 3 points 1 week ago

I finally did the last boss fight in Trepang2. It's a great game but bosses are not its strong suit. It was more one of those things where I got up to it, didn't finish it, and decided I'd get around to it later.

That being said, now the game is done I might got back and play the shit out of the regular levels again. I almost don't use the slo-mo and turning invisible is great. Instead of stealth until you're found, you go invisible so you can do constant guerilla tactics and pop in and out of stealth.

[-] Demifriend@hexbear.net 3 points 1 week ago

I tried a Majora's Mask randomizer challenge that's basically Hero Mode from later games (no heart drops, 2x damage), but if I die the moon crashes and if the moon crashes my save is deleted. My first run died basically instantly, but my second try went a lot better until I met the Iron Knuckle in Ikana Graveyard who one shot me lol. I might try another run or I might just play something else, not sure yet. I kinda want to replay Wind Waker so it's fresh in my brain and then I can try Phantom Hourglass since I missed both of the DS Zelda games, but I also might be about ready to move on from Zelda altogether for now.

Modded Minecraft 1.12.2

GTCEu + Thermal + Forestry + AE2

[-] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 3 points 1 week ago

Been playing Kingdoms of Amalaur: Reckoning, an action RPG that came out in 2012, a year after Skyrim and Dark Souls and oh boy, it certainly feels like it. Played it years ago when it came out, but never came across any reckoning, the characters and plot are really dull and the combat gets really samey (Though you can just completely reset all your skills and go for a completely different setup when you get really bored of it). It's fun in a mindless "watch level go up" kind of way.

Sherma's little song has English words!

Very minor Silksong Act 3 spoilers

[-] KrasMazov@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 1 week ago

I'm still playing Hollow Knight. There's 2 endings I'm missing. I'm on the third Pantheon door and there's a couple of bosses there kicking my ass.

On one side I want to get the Platinum, on the other I really want to play Silksong lol, so I don't know what I'll do.

I'm also back into playing Slay the Spire and Isaac. Ascension 2 and 3 are kicking my ass in StS and in Isaac I had a good Eve run yesterday. I want to try Ultra Hard again, but I fucking hate that challenge.
