Semi relevant, but a user on Bluesky posted about how the original release of Super Mario Bros is closer to the end of WW2 than today.

Thanks, now I feel old as shit.
Your welcome! Also the Wii is older now than the NES was when the Wii released.
:nerd: Ackhually, the NES was 21 years old when the Wii launched in 2006, 19 years ago.
Also the virtual boy is closer to the Rapture than it is today
I may have mixed up Wii and DS
The great thing about these is that the very far away time period gets farther away twice as fast.
In 2020 (5 years ago), the year 2000 was equal distance with the present as 1980 (then 40 years ago), while in 2025, the year 2000 is equal distance with 1975 (now 50 years ago) was to 2000.
i always thought we were due for a new world war
I've been thinking about making a request thread for romhacks and mods and stuff, this is getting me excited.
Well we can do it here if you want, like I said people should check out sonic 3 a.i.r. as well
I've got some good ones:
Ship of Harkinian is SOOOO good. I started it recently and installed high resolution textures. I can’t believe someone redid the entire world, and I can toggle between original and super HD with a button.
Oh god, I really hope Sega Rally 2 works with Lutris on Linux. I've been looking for a good rally game since I can't get Richard Burns Rally working on my Linux setup.
There are some good indie rally games like Art of Rally if you haven't tried those already.
I have tried Art of Rally, for some reason though it runs like trash on my computer. The game that does run for me right now is New Star GP which is a fun F1-style game. I also play Colin McRae 2 for PS1 through retroarch which nearly scratches the rally itch, but damn Richard Burns Rally really spoiled me especially with the shear amount of community support and content. One of these days I'm just going to have to go down the wine troubleshooting rabbit hole and get it running, there's really nothing like it.
There's also Old School Rally which tries to mimic the PS1 Colin McRae style. Yeah, New Star GP is a really fun game, there's a new similar game called Formula Legends but I've heard the handling in that is bad and it's clearly unfinished.
I have to say RBR isn't necessarily that easy to get running on a Windows machine, the joys of it being a 20+ year old game :yea:
Huh, hadn't heard of Old School Rally. I'll have to check it out. Yeah, New Star is fun, but I do find the crew management stuff boring and slightly tedious. Overall it's a solid racer. I did notice on the expert difficulty I was just getting smoked no matter how good I was driving, so I bet the crew management and upgrade stuff is even more necessary for playing elswise I have no clue how expert is winnable. Formula Legends sounds familiar but I couldn't tell you where I heard about it from.
Actually RBR is super easy to get running on a Win machine now using the Rally Sim Fan's version of RBR here: https://www.rallysimfans.hu/rbr/download.php?download=rsfrbr
In the last half dozen times I've never had an issue on Windows and it has great community support for mods and online play. Seriously, if you haven't tried it I highly recommend it, seriously the GOAT rally sim even twenty years later. There's also a couple other modern implementations of RBR as well that update the graphics and provide other tools too.
My dilemma is I only run Linux yhese days and am too lazy to implement a dual boot for just one game when 80+% of stuff works just fine for me through Lutris....although I have been tempted to because RBR, especially yhe Rally Sim Fan version, is just that damn good.
I haven't paid much attention to that game since it came out of early access, so I'll have to pay more attention to it.
Yeah, I've installed the game in the past but the control setup can be a handful. I recently got a large SATA SSD that can hold much of the mod content made for that game, so we'll see how much I feel like downloading.
Oh yeah, getting the RBR setup to detect the right and left triggers as seperate can be a pain I remember, but as far as I know even that has a fix now.

Another user mentioned Sonic A.I.R. below, it's a widescreen PC port of Sonic 3 and Knuckles. Here's the link: https://sonic3air.org/
Nice! This looks like it might be pretty cool. I just beat SMB on the original cart this past year so this might be a good complement. Thanks for the find ;)
Hope you like it, another cool one I found a couple months back, https://hoverbat.itch.io/ziiaol someone ported and updated zelda ii with gamemaker.
Oh that's pretty cool too, although Zelda 2 was never really my jam. But maybe I'll have to take a stab at it again since it seems like a good excuse to with a enhanced version. Did you also ever see the MESEN Zelda 1 HD version with updated graphics and QoL tweaks?
Nope first I hear of it.
Oh man, it's pretty sweet. Here' a link: https://www.romhacking.net/forum/index.php?topic=31559.0
You do specifically need the MESEN emulator to run it though, but it's so worth it and MESEN is actually a great NES emu.
I'm hoping it won't be DMCA'd, but all I'm basing that on is that the Star Fox 64 and N64 Zelda recompilations are still up.
Better than anything Nintendo would ever give us, when are we getting simultaneous two player mode?
Okay, I just played the shit out of this last night and am floored by how good it is. It still does have that slight input lag delay that PC versions of SMB have, which is even more noticeable after playing and beating SMB on the OG hardware this past year, but once you get used to that slight delay it isn't too bad, not perfect but still very playable and very fun. I dig the graphic upgrade and how it's a upgrade of the look of the original graphics but not so dramatic to be jarring. I honestly think it did a better job enhancing the look of the original graphics then Super Mario Maker did. The remixed songs and geographic themes of the levels were a nice welcome surprise that retained the same level layouts but gave each world a distinct theme like later Mario entries.
So basically, this is my mofo jam right now. Thanks OP for the heads up on this <3
what emulator did you play it on? I'm like, allergic to shit like this but would like to play the jumpman game
It's not an emu specifically, you download the game client for your particular OS (Linux in my case) and run the app and it'll ask you to drag and drop a Super Mario Bros. nes rom into the game Window (literally drag and drop the rom) and from there you're good to go. Just download the client for your OS and then the SMB rom (just a search for NES roms on Archive.org and you'll find the Super Mario Bros. (world) rom). I don't know how Hexbear feels about rom links but if you need me to I can DM you the direct link for the rom ;)
oh shit that actually sounds easy, thanks!
Tabletop, DnD, board games, and minecraft. Also Animal Crossing.
