Paulo Freire, born on the 19th of September in 1921, was a Brazilian philosopher and radical pedagogue most known for his 1968 work Pedagogy of the Oppressed. "Language is never neutral."

Paulo was born in Recife, the capital of the northeastern Brazilian state of Pernambuco. Initially affluent, his family experienced hardship during the Great Depression of the 1930s, and Freire's education suffered due to his own experiences with poverty and hunger.

Freire began working as a schoolteacher in the 1940s, beginning to serve as the director of the Pernambuco Department of Education and Culture in 1946. Due to the 1964 Brazilian coup d'état, where a military dictatorship was put in place with the support of the United States, Paulo Freire was exiled from his home country, an exile that lasted 16 years.

Freire then worked in Chile, until April 1969 when he accepted a temporary position at Harvard University. It was during this period, in 1968, that Freire published his most famous work, "Pedagogy of the Oppressed".

In this text, Freire criticizes what he calls the "banking method" of education, wherein a teacher "deposits" knowledge into an empty vessel, the student, or "bank". Instead, Freire calls upon teacher to engage in a more dialog-centric or creative education, one in which the suppressed experiences of the oppressed help create knowledge, fostering a social reality in which the marginalized are humanized.

Pedagogy of the Oppressed has since become the third most cited book in the social sciences, according to Elliott D. Green. As of 2000, the book had sold over 750,000 copies worldwide.

"Manipulation, sloganizing, depositing, regimentation, and prescription cannot be components of revolutionary praxis, precisely because they are the components of the praxis of domination."

Paulo Freire

What do you think the largest thing used for music was? Maybe a mountain range used for an echo?

Manchild landlord always listens to Tim Pool (we have no emotes?) I catch little snippets as I walk past sometimes, HE'S STILL TALKING ABOUT KIRK LITERALLY EVERY TIME I HEAR HIS VOICE.

Is it just the fact that he's a zero talent hack with zero original thoughts and too lazy to do any kind of prep work, research or independent learning? Or are they really STILL trying to squeeze juice out of it?

I have become a boomer. I am trying to buy some drugs online and they want crypto and I don't know how. This must be what looking at an unrelated pdf feels like.

Back home from a short vacation to a city in the coast. Used our feet and public transport. We hiked near the ocean, in the local parks and all over the city. We totalled about 80 000 steps over 5 days.

The place is a part of the local bibble belt and also a place where the White Terror was particularly bad and oh boy does it show today. They have monuments and statues for the old feudal lords and the fash all over the city. Saw the swastika and other nazi related imagery all over. Several church related things, many with actual storefronts in the city center. In their museum they had managed to only mention the civil war once in passing with WW1, never going into what happened at all. The museum had zero working class history or mention of the struggle although this was one of the most active and most violent places during it. And one of the strongholds of industry in the coutry at the time. Complete with slums and terrible conditions.

It's also a city that was originally established by Swedish feudalists and built on exploitation from there, capitalism has been just the continuation of that.

Came home slightly depressed, but the sea was glorious.

both of my jobs today resulted in weird cancellations.

first one was an old guy who didn't want to put the last four digits of his social into the website to confirm his identity. he said he didn't want to give them his social, but like... they already have your social if they're using it to verify your identity, dude! it's literally the government, they're the ones that gave you the social in the first place!

second one was a customer who apparently got called by the company and told that I had cancelled, then when I called the company they said they had no idea why that happened cuz the job was still open. so now I think it was the customer that was trying to cancel and just lied to me about it.

uhhh anyway I should still get (mostly) paid but shit like this makes me nervous. one of the worst things is to be broke and trying to go to bat with some company to get the money they owe you

libbing out but if you live in a district where you have a Democratic representative who voted yes on the Charlie Kirk Is Honorable resolution and they have expressed prior concern for "college antisemitism" now is the perfect time to write an email asking if they endorse the political legacy of a guy who peddled Judeo-Bolshevism and toured college campuses. not even to change their mind just to make political staffers' day worse. reintroduce the specter of wokeness into their emails.

also if you live in Sarah McBride’s district you absolutely should email her office asking if she endorses Charlie Kirk's position on trans people

always click the "yes I am seeking a response" so they have to write an email dodging the issue. it’s so funny when they do

I’m not saying this thinking it will amount to change. I just want to annoy people trollface

Making a new BBQ sauce recipe for work tomorrow if the order for stuff I need got placed. I have a game plan, tomato paste, molasses, honey, red wine vinegar, Dijon, water, salt, pepper, paprika, cayenne and chili powder. Almost like a honey mustard but with tomato.
