I had the same problem on midwest.social, but a request of the admin to add it as a language for the instance was all it took to resolve. Try contacting the .ml admins, goodness knows there's plenty of Hispanophone Marxists.
thanks for you answer, i see that this lemmy instance have an option for publish in another language, my case spanish, is just select it and done? i do not want to invite my friends and latter one angry admin telling me to go back to reddit XD
The language selection on a post/comment doesn't alter how the content of the post or comment is published. It works in conjunction with the user-level language setting to filter what content other people see. So if you set the language to on your post to Spanish, then the only users who will see it are those who have added either Spanish or Undetermined to the Languages list in their user settings. For everyone who doesn't have one of those two languages enabled in their settings your post/comment will simply not be displayed.
Undetermined is it's own "language", equivalent to not picking one in the dropdown. Your post is actually "Undetermined". You can see [edit: at least on desktop] that mine has a little "English" on it which yours lack. So picking Undetermined will not show you Spanish, you have to pick the language in settings.
Oh wow, so if I want to see English AND Spanish content, I would need to add both languages? Neat. TIL!
Oh, looks like that's not an option for me (lemmy.zip). Are you able to add multiple languages on other instances?
What's the issue? It should be possible on any instance. I added English and German.
I do remember my app doesn't support this, I had to do it through the website with the regular Lemmy web frontend.
On mine, there's a dropdown to select your language. There is no option to add an additional one.
Desktop? Ctrl click the languages to select multiple.
Are you looking at the drop-down for your comment? I'm taking about your account settings. Go to https://lemmy.zip/settings and there should be a list view for Languages that you can multi-select.
Posts and comments where the author doesn't select a language use undetermined. So you need to also select that to see all those posts.
You should be able to log in using your browser, even on mobile, and set it there. Then it should display posts of both languages even in your app, despite it not allowing you to properly apply this setting in your app. Just keep sure to also select 'undetermined' as most people don't bother selecting the language when they post.
Ah, I see it now! I was an idiot and only looking at the menu above it for interface language. Got it. Thanks for the help!
Ohhh I see how that can happen though. I am definitely guilty of just not reading far enough way too often hahah

Eu tenho interesse. Consigo ler espanhol, mas não escrever.
I'm interested. I can read Spanish, but not write.
Si, pero Ingles es mas popular.
I do see posts in Spanish sometimes, and there are all Spanish communities too.
I do see also lots of German on Lemmy.
