I haven't been on Facebook in something over a decade and received an email today saying that there was a request to reset my Facebook password. I decided to long into the account to delete it but the only option Facebook gave me to confirm my identity was to upload a scan of a photo ID. What insanity is that? I'm obviously not going to send them a copy of my dl. Is there any way to nuke my account without logging in or to log in without sending them any information they don't already have?

Uh, so.... I may run a Facebook account for my dog.... I was asked for a driver's license. I made a shitty id for her...like with her picture thinking 'well, this is it... May as well have fun.'

It was approved. Either the approver was like 'fuck okay, bless you' or it's a shitty ai bot.

Please tell me you have a photo of your dog's fake ID.

sorry friend... I quickly whipped it together in gimp, I believe, three computers ago :(

However, one thing worth noting... I had to buy the old domain to some website I ran in college. It was her email address... and I needed a code to submit the ID. She got crazy locked out of the account due to VPN use. Anyway so I bought the domain, set up a back up email and then submitted the ID. Cost me nothing as I was able to refund the domain in time. But damn it was a lot of work... but I've been runnin that account for like 10 years.

RIP lil homie :) (had to put her down recently but she was nearly 18 and well loved)

Q: When did Facebook decide it was ok to demand a scan of your driver’s license? A: when people became stupid enough to scan their driver's license and send it to a website

At least seven years. That’s when they first demanded I provide ID. I was traveling a ton for work and using VPN so likely got flagged. My account has been in some wired shitty limbo ever since. I won’t give them my ID, and have purged my posts, likes, groups and so on. The account is nothing but a ghost now, cest le vie!

How are they supposed to know that you want to delete your account? Like I get what you’re saying and I agree to a point, but without the password what’s the way they prevent any random person from emailing and having accounts deleted?

I'm willing to answer security questions or give them a code they send me through a text or email. I understand the need for identity verification but there are less invasive ways to do that.

They didn't email, they tried to login directly to Facebook, and when logging in Facebook asked for their driver's license...
