...and surrounded on three sides by Haiti proper, with 11 million people.

That's why the one guy knew he needed a partner to pull it off. Its too much for one guy to handle.

Weisenburg and Thomas had plans to purchase a sailboat, firearms and ammunition as well as recruit homeless people from Washington, D.C. to serve as their "mercenary force" as they invaded the Island of Gonave and staged a coup d'etat.

NGL i want to read their plan. If they did this much work it implies they knew there were that many folks right? But they were only gonna get one boat so...

damnit i want to see the exact depth of their delusion

Part of their heritage.

The two men created operational and logistical plans and learned to speak the Haitian Creole language

I need to hear the Y'all Qaeda dialect of Haitian Creole. The mugshots of these goobers do not scream "I could learn a more difficult kind of French".

[-] SteamedHamberder@hexbear.net 10 points 1 month ago

1000% they used Duolingo which has some significant weak points on Haitian Creole, per some online linguists.

I mean, predictable outcome. The US government does not like competition.

[-] Keld@hexbear.net 14 points 1 month ago

The US government actually has a proud tradition of supporting filibusters.

[-] Infamousblt@hexbear.net 11 points 1 month ago

All they had to do was go to their local Marines recruitment center and they could get paid to do it. Real dumb move to try to do it for free and get caught

[-] DragonBallZinn@hexbear.net 23 points 1 month ago

Sure, and we’re the extremists for wanting to leave them alone.

How we let these monsters roam free for even a day is beyond me.

[-] dkr567@hexbear.net 20 points 1 month ago

Just average American culture things.

[-] Midnight_Pearl@hexbear.net 20 points 1 month ago

[-] WashedAnus@hexbear.net 14 points 1 month ago

what. Are we doing filibustering but stupider now? First as tragedy now as farce but for something that was already farcical and evil?

[-] LENINSGHOSTFACEKILLA@hexbear.net 16 points 1 month ago

I saw this posted somewhere yesterday and the consensus seemed to be that this was originally just some gross fantasy/fetish shit for themselves and then they ended up talking themselves into actually taking steps towards it? Very confusing on its own,, but the original post also mentioned child porn and gave zero details on where the child porn came into the plot

[-] Keld@hexbear.net 18 points 1 month ago

and then they ended up talking themselves into actually taking steps towards it?

The article has them recruiting people, engaging in education to learn ""necessary skills", learning Haitian creole, buying weapons and planning the logistics.

[-] LeeeroooyJeeenkiiins@hexbear.net 3 points 1 month ago

the child porn came into the plot

They were gonna kill all the men and make all the women and children their slaves. The "and children" part kind of implies child sex assault

[-] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 16 points 1 month ago

Trump to the rescue via a pardon or whatever?

If convicted of the federal conspiracy to commit murder in a foreign country, Weisenburg and Thomas face up to life in federal prison. If convicted of the federal production of child pornography charges, both face at least 15 years and up to 30 years in federal prison.

CW: CSA

U.S. Attorney Jay R. Comb announced on Thursday that Gavin Rivers Weisenburg, 21, of Allen, and Tanner Christopher Thomas, 20, of Argyle, have been charged with conspiracy to murder, maim, or kidnap in a foreign country and production of child pornography.

Weisenburg and Thomas had plans to purchase a sailboat, firearms and ammunition as well as recruit homeless people from Washington, D.C. to serve as their "mercenary force" as they invaded the Island of Gonave and staged a coup d'etat.

Gonâve Island has a population of about 87,000.

white supremacy, chomos, and not understanding geography, it's the am*rican trifecta!

Mfs thought they lived in 1820, where you get some whiteys on a boat and start a new slave colony and the US integrates it as a state

Newcomm and Newsmega Rules:

The Hexbear Code of Conduct and Terms of Service apply here.

  1. Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

  2. Content warnings: Posts on the newscomm and top-level replies on the newsmega should use content warnings appropriately. Please be thoughtful about wording and triggers when describing awful things in post titles.

  3. Fake news: No fake news posts ever, including April 1st. Deliberate fake news posting is a bannable offense. If you mistakenly post fake news the mod team may ask you to delete/modify the post or we may delete it ourselves.

  4. Link sources: All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include the Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance) or at least strip out identifier information from the twitter link. There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source.

  5. Archive sites: We highly encourage use of non-paywalled archive sites (i.e. archive.is, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org) so that links are widely accessible to the community and so that reactionary sources don’t derive data/ad revenue from Hexbear users. If you see a link without an archive link, please archive it yourself and add it to the thread, ask the OP to fix it, or report to mods. Including text of articles in threads is welcome.

  6. Low effort material: Avoid memes/jokes/shitposts in newscomm posts and top-level replies to the newsmega. This kind of content is OK in post replies and in newsmega sub-threads. We encourage the community to balance their contribution of low effort material with effort posts, links to real news/analysis, and meaningful engagement with material posted in the community.

  7. American politics: Discussion and effort posts on the (potential) material impacts of American electoral politics is welcome, but the never-ending circus of American Politics© Brought to You by Mountain Dew™ is not welcome. This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.

  8. Electoralism: Please try to avoid struggle sessions about the value of voting/taking part in the electoral system in the West. c/electoralism is right over there.

  9. AI Slop: Don't post AI generated content. Posts about AI race/chip wars/data centers are fine.
