Assuming those lines are parallel, wouldn't the acute angle be 24.2º? Or is there something I'm missing here?

[-] agamemnonymous@sh.itjust.works 19 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah I was wondering why it added up to 192°. Maybe I'm a freak, but I would've measured ambient temperature and drawn a supplementary angle. Also what scale is that thermometer on? That room is either really hot or almost freezing.

[-] NeatNit@discuss.tchncs.de 21 points 2 weeks ago

Looks like normal body temperature in Celsius. it's probably holding the last measurement, presumably from under someone's tongue.

[-] agamemnonymous@sh.itjust.works 11 points 2 weeks ago

Which just means it would have been even easier to make the supplemental angle add up! Ugh.

[-] village604@adultswim.fan 0 points 2 weeks ago

I don't think most medical thermometers will read that low of a temperature, because if your body temp is 24C, you're dead.

Pens, however, can write a wide range of angles.

[-] taiyang@lemmy.world 15 points 2 weeks ago

Technically there is a notation for parallel lines so you can't actually assume that, but I agree with everyone else that this would have been funnier if it added up to 180 degrees.

Btw. PSA to young folks, that notation looks like > on each line and some standardized tests will fucking get you on a technically with that shit, especially with the "it's impossible to know" answer being an option.

He has not reset it between measurements, so its still showing his body temperature, not the angle he is pointing at.

I swear, people dont know how to use measuring equipment anymore. 🙄

[-] bonenode@piefed.social 4 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah, I think you are missing that this is just a meme.

[-] SapphironZA@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago

Its a Science meme, details matter!

[-] runner_g@piefed.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 weeks ago

intentionally wrong for engagement maybe?

[-] dream_weasel@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago

I think the most likely answer is that it's a non-euclidean space.

[-] Siethron@lemmy.world 15 points 2 weeks ago

That's a 192 degree total which is wrong assuming those are parallel lines

[-] exasperation@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah, it's funny either way, but would be even funnier if the answer had been correct.

[-] AllNewTypeFace@leminal.space 11 points 2 weeks ago

Just mention Jesus in your answer and you’ll be fine

[-] loaExMachina@hexbear.net 1 points 2 weeks ago

Doesn't that only work if the teacher is transgender?

[-] SapphironZA@sh.itjust.works 10 points 2 weeks ago

The definition of degree is literally an arbitrary unit of measure, not a specific one.

Its not like measuring Roentgen, which can be good, bad or 3.6 which is "not great, not terrible"

[-] Warl0k3@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago

That is either a fucking cold or a fucking hot room, wtf?

[-] NeatNit@discuss.tchncs.de 29 points 2 weeks ago

Looks like normal body temperature in Celsius. it's probably holding the last measurement, presumably from under someone's tongue.

[-] Saapas@piefed.zip 6 points 2 weeks ago

It's body temperature lol

[-] Warl0k3@lemmy.world 0 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Its not in a body tho! (Yes, I'm aware of how a thermometer works. My comment was a joke.)

[-] JesusChristLover420@lemmy.sdf.org 4 points 2 weeks ago

It's a completely normal temperature for a desert

[-] Lemmyoutofhere@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 weeks ago

Yes, I too enjoy ice cream.

[-] psud@aussie.zone 1 points 1 week ago

You're thinking dessert

[-] fckreddit@lemmy.ml 7 points 2 weeks ago

Something feels off. Can't quite put a finger on it.

[-] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

That's not how you measure degrees. You use an amateur backhoe

[-] QuinnyCoded@sh.itjust.works 14 points 2 weeks ago

what'd you call me?!

[-] Uri@infosec.pub 6 points 2 weeks ago

I did the calculation and you are wrong both way
