https://www.kgns.tv/2025/12/23/ceo-killed-industrial-site-by-worker-operating-forklift-while-talking-phone-osha-report-shows/

According to OSHA’s findings, You was on the HL-GA Battery Company construction site on March 21 speaking to some of his workers when he decided to walk across the road. He was then struck by the forklift and killed.

The report said You was wearing an eye patch on his right eye as well as a black vest. However, under HL-GA Battery Company rules, he should have been wearing a high-visibility green vest.

Statements given to OSHA by a safety manager, which had to be translated, said the person driving the forklift was talking on the phone while driving. Once he was off the forklift, he “ran away” without checking on You.

So both the CEO and forklift driver screwed up, and this is the result.

RIP to an entrepreneur he died doing what he loved, taking risks

[-] happybadger@hexbear.net 37 points 2 weeks ago

He put his blood, sweat, and tears into that company.

Here’s what this taught me about b2b sales:

Always Be Closing- sales, distance between him and a forklift, his eyes

[-] driving_crooner@lemmy.eco.br 60 points 2 weeks ago

And we only learn about it because this time was rhe CEO instead of a random employee like usual.

[-] RNAi@hexbear.net 55 points 2 weeks ago

Why not make the forklift operator the new CEO?

The sith method of promotion

wearing an eye patch on his right eye as well as a black vest. However, under HL-GA Battery Company rules, he should have been wearing a high-visibility green vest

... and he should have been keeping an eye out for traffic?

Anyway lol. I hope the worker doesn't get too harshly penalised.

he “ran away” without checking on You.

Edit

he “ran away” without checking on You.

Would love to know whether he just PANICK AND RUN or if he was worried the boss he ran over would still be alive and mean about it.

Letting someone die instead of providing aid is a very serious crime that's almost impossible to prove in court

[-] segfault11@hexbear.net 24 points 2 weeks ago

The company was ultimately fined just under $10,000 for his death

well now we know the value of a CEOs life ✍️

[-] johnyreeferseed@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 2 weeks ago

That's not bad. I think we could fundraise for a few, easily

[-] KhanCipher@hexbear.net 5 points 2 weeks ago

I know you're joking, but the takeaway here (and tbh a really damning thing here) is that the fine is that low for multiple safety violations that resulted in a death.

[-] lib1@hexbear.net 22 points 2 weeks ago

I’m pretty sure being forklift certified means you’re allowed 1 murder per year

[-] SexUnderSocialism@hexbear.net 13 points 2 weeks ago

When you're allowed one deadly OHSA violation a year, you better make it count. fain-cool

[-] happybadger@hexbear.net 22 points 2 weeks ago

Skill issue. I would have dodged it, backflipped on, double neck chop. Nobody hits me with a forklift.

And that's just one of the 5 million ways

[-] MeowZedong@lemmygrad.ml 16 points 2 weeks ago

Not surprising. The US Hyundai factories and the contractors they hire are well known to treat worker health and safety as secondary to literally everything else. Don't promote workplace safety, get capped by unsafe work conditions, poetic justice.

Shake hands with danger

[-] GenXen@hexbear.net 13 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Maybe the CEO should ~~have put his phone down to~~ dodge a fucking forklift?

edit: commented from the headline without reading the description. Minor edit, but that's as far as I'm going.

[-] robot_dog_with_gun@hexbear.net 12 points 2 weeks ago

why was the ceo dressed like that?

always wear PPE folks

OSHA has opened at least 15 investigations into incidents at the site, including You’s death and the March pipe explosion.

The fuck is going on there??

[-] KhanCipher@hexbear.net 8 points 2 weeks ago

Remember, every single manager at any factory is all about quality and safety, until it's crunch time on the production floor, and it's always crunch time on the production floor.
