Too bad I'm really bad at mental arithmetic

[-] foodandart@lemmy.zip 24 points 1 week ago

Ohh dear.. My bitcoin miner has a cpu built in 1964. It's gonna take a terribly long, long time to find anything.. ;)

I was gonna say, jokes on those viruses. I'm not an Olympic athlete. They just infected the human equivalent of a 1995 Compaq Presario. Also, good luck even getting the pennies that actually get mined. I've got a 56k modem and a family that keeps forgetting not to use the phone when I'm on the internet.

LOL!

Yeah, for me it's a IBM System/360 - 8-bits all the way, my dudes!!!

Good luck!

Don't give them any ideas. We'll all be in matrix pods powering AI data centers.

Still using wasteful dinosaur proof of work? Then get ready for Proof-of-Illness! It's completely green and there's no limit to human suffering!

Still don't have any IllCoins? Pay a visit to your local Torment Nexus today!

Nah it's training large language models now.

[-] pageflight@piefed.social 8 points 1 week ago

Which Neal Stephenson involved a DNA-based compute penal colony orgy? Hopefully that doesn't describe more than one.

[-] ryven@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Was that in The Diamond Age?

[-] pageflight@piefed.social 3 points 1 week ago

Ah, yep. Someone seems to have the full PDF. Beginning of Part The Second is it, rather more disturbing thematically than I remembered.

[-] Chakravanti@monero.town 2 points 1 week ago

Down the ocean tube IIRC. Been a while tho.

[-] not_woody_shaw@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Have read several and its not ringing any bells, so... not snow crash, anathem, or seveneves? Sounds more like Peter Hamilton or Iain M Banks.

[-] SanctimoniousApe@lemmings.world 7 points 1 week ago

Finally found a way to make people think I'm hot!

[-] tio_bira@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

Somehow, in the future, it will have people who will honestly belive in a meme like this, seen how the things are going...

[-] WhyIHateTheInternet@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

There's people that believe the COVID vaccine was injecting 5g microwave chips into them.

Pretty sure there's people that believe this now.

[-] TomMasz@piefed.social 5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Sounds legit.

Just kidding, it's a scam.

[-] Samskara@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 week ago

This is actually kind of a good analogy.

[-] Klear@quokk.au 21 points 1 week ago

In what way? It's not even the infection that's rising the temperature, it's your body, trying to get rid of it.

[-] kadu@scribe.disroot.org 9 points 1 week ago

Plus, if "working harder" meant getting a fever, like a CPU getting warmer with a power virus, a gym session would be a death sentence.

[-] Remember_the_tooth@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

Right? I was just thinking that my immune system's graphics card does not work that way.

[-] darvocet@infosec.pub 5 points 1 week ago

Probably need to download some more ram.

[-] Remember_the_tooth@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

Well, thanks for that! Now I have even more virus!

[-] Rose_Thorne@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 week ago

This is what we should all be aiming for. The Mr. Burns effect, where there's so many different ailments present at once that nothing can actually do anything.

Go inject with dirty needles, drink stagnant water, lick the hands of every child you encounter. Only by filling yourself to the brim with germs can you achieve immortality.

[-] Remember_the_tooth@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

A similar strategy also works for governance, if Republican leadership is to be believed.

[-] OpenStars@piefed.social 3 points 1 week ago

Ooh, a win-win scenario, noice! 😉

[-] SapphironZA@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 week ago

The Matrix makes people sick in winter to handle the winter peak demand.

[-] KingGimpicus@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago

This is because bitcoin is stored in the balls.

[-] sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 week ago

There's no way this happened to days in a row. Deleting my post lol

[-] thatradomguy@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago
