[-] KoloradoKoolAid75@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 1 week ago

He was the level designer for the original Doom duology, he should've known better.

[-] mnemonicmonkeys@sh.itjust.works 26 points 1 week ago

Wait, are chocolate oranges just chocolate formed to look like orange slices? All this time I thought it was oranges dipped in chocolate, which has always disgusted me.

And in my defense, I've always heard it was a British thing. And British food is infamous for being terrible apart from fish & chips

[-] GreenCrunch@piefed.blahaj.zone 17 points 1 week ago

Yep, it's break-apart slices of chocolate. You knock it on a table and they separate. I used to like them, and either I can't find the brand I used to get or my tastes have changed, because the ones I have tried in the past few years just aren't good.

(I do like orange + chocolate still, in a chocolate bar!)

[-] Drusas@fedia.io 6 points 1 week ago

I remember the ones that you had to break apart from when I was a kid. The modern ones are all cast so that there's nothing to break apart; you just grab a little slice of the sphere.

[-] GreenCrunch@piefed.blahaj.zone 4 points 1 week ago

The modern ones are cast, but last time I checked still require some force to break the slices off their central sprue / core. What were the older ones you're referring to if they weren't cast like that? Now I am curious lol.

[-] CodingCarpenter@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 week ago

There used to be two main brands. But you can only seen to find Terry's now. They were not the good brand. It's sad really

[-] TunaLobster@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

I've only known Terry's. Now I'm curious what I'm missing out on!

[-] CodingCarpenter@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 week ago

Might be ferrera. I haven't seen them since I was a kid but they might still exist

or my tastes have changed, because the ones I have tried in the past few years just aren’t good.

chances are that as you get older, your taste changes. i liked lots of sweets when i was younger and now i just can't stand them anymore.

also yeah, recipes have changed as well. factories want to make their food "healthier" so it appeals to the consumer who tries to watch their diet and as a consequence they often use less artificial flavors (i actually don't have a data source on that, it's just my personal impression/observation). like everything used to be chock-full of artificial flavors in the mid 20th century, and now they're not so much anymore.

British candy fucks, though.

It had fucking better.

[-] Drusas@fedia.io 8 points 1 week ago

It's also an American thing. Historically, one would give oranges (citrus, which is ripe late in the year) and chocolate. Somehow that turned into this.

[-] Lumidaub@feddit.org 5 points 1 week ago

That is exactly what I thought, I'm so confused.

[-] untorquer@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Yes and i used to get these every year growing up in the US.

[-] FosterMolasses@leminal.space 2 points 1 week ago

I've never known it for being british, used to get these in my christmas stocking every year as a kid

[-] eronth@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 week ago

Also flavored.

[-] gandalf_der_12te@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

where i live we have both chocolated fruits and nuts (like nuts dipped into chocolate, which is delicious btw) and animal-shaped chocolate (mostly chocolate bunnies for some reason)

we also have chocolate with fruit flavor. that's mediocre i'd say.

[-] fox2263@lemmy.world -4 points 1 week ago

Oof that last part. So racist.

[-] ranzispa@mander.xyz 9 points 1 week ago

British food Is not a race, just terrible food nobody should have ever come up with.

[-] TheLeadenSea@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 week ago

British isn't a race, it's a rationality. And as a Brit, British food is horrible, including fish and chips.

[-] fox2263@lemmy.world -1 points 1 week ago
[-] Deathray5@lemmynsfw.com 2 points 1 week ago

As a Brit I often joke "if you can communicate cleanly with the people making the food, you're ordering food from the wrong place"

[-] mnemonicmonkeys@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago

I said it's infamous for being terrible, i.e. a factual statement about its reputation. I never said that it is terrible because I haven't really had any.

Also, you're trying to be holier-than-thou over a comment about an Empire that opressed half the world up until around 70 years ago? One that continues to idolize "the good old days"? Learn to pick your battles.

[-] fox2263@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Wow you got all that from what I said? Maybe an emoji 😂

Chill

[-] mnemonicmonkeys@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago

Projecting much? You're the one calling people racist over stuff that isn't racist. And turning into a sarcastic douche towards anyone who reaponded to you.

All of this originated from you making baseless claims because you can't read. Just stfu amd leave the thread like a normal rational person does when they're wrong

I can turn an orange into a chocolatey thing in less than a day. And other things too.

Discworld science right here.

[-] happybadger@hexbear.net 5 points 1 week ago

I can't look at something like a Terry's Chocolate Orange and see "natural processes". This was the divine work of Willy Wonka.

[-] cassandrafatigue@lemmy.dbzer0.com -3 points 1 week ago

Trust a hexbear to fetishize great men and ignore marginalized African labor. So communist, thanks.

[-] FosterMolasses@leminal.space 2 points 1 week ago

Ah yes, we should be livid about OP's post and despise all confections because of the system we live in. How dare anyone ever enjoy chocolate?!

Touch grass.

[-] cassandrafatigue@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I'm not saying don't enjoy chocolate, I'm saying respect the oompa loompas, shit heel

Though now that you mention it the supply lines for chocolate are almost as clean as the one for rare earth minerals and cocaine. So maybe skip the chocolate. Shit.

[-] Gleddified@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 week ago

Is that actually Sandy Petersen? Please say yes

[-] theuniqueone@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 week ago

Going to chose to believe this from now in and never look into it because it brings me pleasure.

[-] FosterMolasses@leminal.space 4 points 1 week ago

I love chocolate oranges so much, definitely one of the coolest candies up there with cotton candy and pop rocks.

[-] borth@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 week ago

More like Chocolie

[-] lazycouchpotato@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Just gotta make sure you're not eating it the wrong way.
