Somali president says Somaliland accepted Palestinian resettlement in exchange for Israel’s recognition (thecradle.co)

Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud said Israel’s recognition of Somaliland was “unexpected and strange,” warning that the move carries implications for Palestinians in Gaza, in comments to Al Jazeera on 31 December.

Speaking from Istanbul, Turkiye, he outlined Somalia’s concerns and said Israel’s decision was abrupt and destabilizing.

Mohamud said that Somaliland has pursued its secessionist claim for decades without international recognition, noting that “no one country in the world has recognized it,” while Somalia has sought reunification “in a peaceful manner,” making Israel’s move, after 34 years, “very unexpected and strange.”

According to Mohamud, Somali intelligence indicates Somaliland accepted three Israeli conditions in exchange for recognition. He listed them as the resettlement of Palestinians, an Israeli military base on the Gulf of Aden coast, and accession to the Abraham Accords.

In a speech delivered on 28 December, Abdul Malik al-Houthi, the leader of Yemen’s Ansarallah, said that any Israeli footprint in Somaliland would be treated as a legitimate “military target” by the Yemeni Armed Forces.

Mohamud said there is already “a certain level” of Israeli presence in Somaliland, describing the recognition as the public normalization of what had been happening covertly, adding that Israel’s presence “is not for peace,” and warned of plans to forcibly displace Palestinians to Somalia.

Paraguay Plan:

In 1969 the Israeli government under Golda Meir approved of a plan to pay 60,000 Palestinians to leave Gaza for Paraguay. At the time, Paraguay was ruled by the Alfredo Stroessner (the pedophile dictator of Paraguay who kept girls as slaves) regime, which had agreed in 1967 to go along with the proposal, seeing Palestinians as ideal immigrants out of a need for labor as well as a notion that as mostly Muslims they were not inclined towards communism.

At the time the agreement was made, Israel had just occupied Arab territories in the Six-Day War, occupying Gaza with a substantial Palestinian population Israel wanted to systematically remove, in addition to the Sinai peninsula, East Jerusalem, Golan Heights, and the West Bank. While estimates of the exact number of Palestinians sent to Paraguay due to the project vary, ranging from "a few dozen" to "thousands", it is widely agreed that the project was a failure, with the number that made the trip being only a small percent of the 60,000 Palestinians in Gaza the Israeli and Paraguayan governments intended to reach.

Under the plan, Palestinians in Gaza were enticed to move to Paraguay by "travel agencies" set up in Gaza to promote emigration to Paraguay; those who moved to Paraguay would be given a one-time lump sum of $100, while the Paraguayan government would be paid $33 per Palestinian it accepted, and after five years of residency they were to become eligible for a path to citizenship.

However, upon arrival, having been left in the country with few resources and with no guarantee of employment, they became destitute. Many of those that went had been lured in with false promises of becoming landowners and receiving further financial support, leading to additional frustration.

The program was abruptly halted in 1970 after two of the immigrants shot and killed an Israeli embassy secretary in Asunción. Some reports suggest the motive was related to the immigrants being disgruntled and feeling they were brought to Paraguay under false pretenses, such as promises of land ownership that never materialized.

Stroessner was a fucking moron, he only lasted so long because he knew how to bootlick the Brazilian, Argentine and American goverments. Since Paraguay only has one real political party with no real ideology, his own party, the Colorado Party, was also the main guerrilla movement against his goverment.

During the Vietnam War, the Paraguayan dictator Alfredo Stroessner was a staunch anti-communist ally of the United States and even offered to send Paraguayan troops to Vietnam to fight alongside American forces. Stroessner's strong anti-communist stance was a cornerstone of his foreign policy, which helped him secure significant military and economic support from the U.S. during the Cold War. By offering to contribute forces to the U.S. war effort in Vietnam, he aimed to solidify Washington's support for his regime, which was known for human rights abuses and the suppression of political opponents.

While the U.S. appreciated Stroessner's public support and anti-communist alignment, it did not deploy the offered Paraguayan troops. Stroessner did, however, send a contingent to the 1965 U.S. invasion of the Dominican Republic, another action intended to demonstrate his loyalty to U.S. foreign policy goals in Latin America.

Yes. There are around 10,000 Paraguayan-Palestinians living in Paraguay. Although I think most of them emigrate to Brazil, Argentina, or Chile. I believe the Paraguayan-Lebanese community is the largest Arab community in Paraguay, with around 250,000 people. Most Arabs (and some middle eastern jews and other minorities) in LATAM are called Turks due to the fact they arrived here with Ottoman documents.

Many Arab-Latinos are very pro-Israel and pro-US, just look at Nayib Bukele (Palestinian), Carlos Menem (Syrian, raised as a Muslim), or Michel Temer (Lebanese). Paraguay is not a democracy, Paraguay has always been a dictatorship since the 19th century. The Colorado Party (which has no real ideology beyond being the state party) has ruled Paraguay since at least the 1940s, with a brief defeat by Fernando Lugo (a Catholic socialist who led the Patriot Front for Change, a coalition of leftists and nationalists who defected from left-wing factions within the Colorado Party). Colorado has also had anti-american social democratic presidents such as Nicanor Duarte and Far-Right monsters such as Strossner.

resettlement is usually a form of ethnic cleansing. And yeah its just a more fancier way of killing them themselves - easier to shift the blame and rehabilitate israhell in 15 or so years when they are "sorry" and "unpacking" historical baggage and doing land "acknowledgements"
