Hello everyone. Welcome to 2026. This week, I returned home from being on vacation for the holidays to resume my playthrough of the Mass Effect trilogy, starting my replay of ME3.

Doing full renegade Shepherd, the dreams about the child become very funny; why would Full Renegade shepherd care. Anyway, hope everyone has had a good start to their year

Haven't played much this past week, but I'm back on Chrono Trigger after a few days of not playing it. I'm 7 hours in and just recovered both parts of Masamune. Funny thing is that I actually missed meeting Melchior before this because the little goblin looking guy with a portal in his wardrobe said that most fiends would try to fight me and I didn't want to kill them since I was on their village, so I just followed the advice to go to the cave. So now that I had to go back there I decided to talk around and realized it's not really an issue since they will only fight if I annoy them. But anyways, now I get to meet the guy and he says that I'm back, but I never spoke with him before lol. I guess the game didn't expect me to be a dumbass.

Been downloading a bunch of roms for older consoles like PS1, Gamecube, and PSP now that I have a slightly better laptop to run them. It feels so good getting to play stuff like Mega Man Maverick Hunter X, Paper Mario TTYD, and, especially, Fire Emblem Path of Radiance(have been wanting to play this title for so long) without any noticeable performance drops.

Tried 3DS emulation and unfortunately that's still chugging bad. No Kirby for me i guess deeper-sadness

Kirby Air Ride isn't exactly typical Kirby but my god is it good

[-] SmithrunHills@hexbear.net 1 points 4 days ago

It definitely looks fun and charming, especially City Trial, but it feels like the type of game best enjoyed with friends or online compared to its single-player content so I havent dipped my toes in it yet

[-] 7bicycles@hexbear.net 2 points 4 days ago

I mean anything but City Trial is basically just a racing game or a minigame. City Trial works surprisingly well with the AI due to how it's designed.

Divinity: Original Sin 2. Has its rough points but still goated game. I don't think I'm gonna move onto another game after this because finishing this game takes so damn long lol I need a break for my other hobbies

I finally got around playing Disco Elysium, and i'm so obsessed with it.

My first run was a sorry spooky lefty cop (didn't follow through with Mazovian Socio Economics because of the debuffs) and I loved the ending. Then I beat the game as a brawler, asshole fascist dumb as a rock. I love it, haven't collected my thoughts about it fully, but it is a masterpiece, that's for sure. Planning a nerdy Commie run and a silver-tongued ultraliberal next.

I'm so hooked. I ruined my sleep schedule around the holidays just because I couldn't stop playing.

Been there, done that, seems like a commonly shared experience!

Just moved onto RE2 1998. Feels like a different experience from the remake (aside from being easier, at least so far).

got into a debt spiral due to building upkeep/extreme vassal disloyalty in my eu5 campaign so i'm putting that on hold til the new balance patch comes out. only got to about 1650 or so but definitely learned a lot that will help in the next run.

got an elden ring playthrough going right now, bonk build ofc heavy greatsword charged attack bullshit, risky build but very satisfying to take a large chunk of boss HP if it connects.

also playing tlou2 remaster. brought up to my partner how neil druckmann is a huge zionist so it's fun analyzing everything that happens in game through that lens. combat is fucking brutal and the really dark stealth sections hit super hard. also really fun exploring overgrown abandoned shit finding ammo or upgrades or whatever, or just looking at paintings, moss textures, shadows a weird light makes, the view.

edit: almost forgot! also playing some LA Noire. looking up some answers to get perfect cases because it's not intuitive to me if people are lying or not but i'm loving the vibe.

Tbh a lot of those facial expressions are famously incomprehensible so I think that's fine lol. It's been a while since I played; do you get anything for getting perfect cases?

[-] take_five_moments@hexbear.net 2 points 1 week ago

not really i'm just weird like that, most of the unlockables are from street crime missions

[-] thelastaxolotl@hexbear.net 4 points 1 week ago

I got Stationeers pretty much sight unseen and I don't think I've ever felt so stupid in my entire life.

I figured out why I've been feeling kinda shitty/a little bit off this weekend. Turns out Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 makes me just a little bit motion sick when I play. First time a game has made me feel sick.

I've gotten pretty deep into Vintage Story lately, my first winter is on the horizon, added a bunch of mods, got a mod that nerfed the ever loving shit out of crop yields where I'd get 7 onions where otherwise I'd get 40, so I'm probably going to survive on mushrooms as my veggie source. Found a different mod to let me do crop breeding. Also chiseling is fucking amazing as a basegame feature.

Metaphor refantazio; I've hit the final stretch I believe. I think I like it overall. It's a little optimistic in that you can simply do the the good things because you can build power out of nowhere. And there's no real choices to make concerning the plot. But as an idealistic fantasy game about saving the world from the corruption of the powerful elites it could be worse. We'll see how the finale goes and if it sticks the landing or if it flubs it horribly.

Finished Skate Story recently and nothing has really grabbed me quite as hard as that did. Finished the main campaign of Distance. Usual Unnamed Space Idle bullshit, completed the Xmas event. Not finding anything hugely engaging, will probably break out an emulator and play some Wipeout, get back into my backlog of DooM wads that's been piling up for a while.

I, too, have defeated the santalien. Perfect timing for all the boosts since I had just unlocked Crew, and probably skipped weeks of grinding.

ARC Raiders, I bought it after learning about their (new?) aggression-based matchmaking. I've got almost 20 hours in by now, and have only been attacked by other raiders twice! It's nice being able to enjoy the game without having to worry about sweats and griefers.

I love exploring the maps, finding secrets, and taking cathartic rage out on the ARC ai hst-gun

As someone who thinks all of these kinds of games are extremely boring to play in PvE, this sounds like a good idea. I had friends who always wanted to play Sea of Thieves but literally all I wanted to do was ram people's boats and have pirate fights with them, not left click on skeletons with the most basic AI imaginable. It pretty much never works to put those two populations together because the PvE folks don't like being interrupted and quit, which leaves the PvP player base to dwindle to nothing as the less skilled players also drop off over time.

If it works like a scale from completely fresh/passive players to an entire map of people who shoot on sight, it sounds like a win-win. I do wonder how someone might go back to a more passive type of play if they get tired of the latter though, since being matched with other PvP players is going to mean that you're shooting people more often, creating a feedback loop.

[-] nasezero@hexbear.net 2 points 1 week ago

The exact algorithm they use is not public, but the general consensus is that: don't shoot anyone (even in retaliation) and don't loot raider corpses (even if you didn't kill them) and you will get placed into friendly lobbies within 10-20 rounds. If you do either of things, you get placed back into aggressive lobbies for at least a few rounds.

For people wanting to go pve from pvp, it seems really simple to just do a bunch of matches using the game's generous free loadout system, and take a few deaths until whatever flag or value they use sends you to friendly lobbies.

Overall, seems like it works really well for placing people in exactly the types of matches they want to be in, without locking people in. Both pvp-ers and pve-ers seem happy with it, which is rare lol.

My internet has been messed up so I cannot play 2xko and I am sad about it.

More Warframe, gotta get my aya reserves up for the new resurgence (and occasionally run one of the few modes that still has stuff I need). Got a credit doubler for my login today so I did an hour of profit-taker to get my credit reserves back up. Still can't seem to get my exodia contagion zaw to seem to work right, not sure why.

Did a few runs of Hades 2 after picking it up on sale. So far, I prefer Zagreus' gameplay from H1 to Melinoe's, but we'll see. The cast time and reduced number of dodges seem pretty brutal though. Made it to the second area boss and got it down to like 10% before dying.

Did one run of Slay the Spire after also getting it on sale, made it to the third boss. It would seem that my attempt to go all-in on damage and Rage cards did not work. Perhaps I need to focus more on blocking? Who knows. Unlocked the second character, at any rate.

Played some more Clair Obscur, gotta be getting close to the end of Act 2. I still do not get the hype. It's fine but so far, nothing groundbreaking. If anything, the in-combat gameplay is a step back from the mario RPGs where attack inputs were more complicated than "just press A lmao". Also the huge difference in difficulty between random chromatic minibosses being extremely tough and actually named bosses that are built up to be super impressive being super easy is narratively odd.

Act 2 spoilersCurrently going after the second Axon, and Lune is just one-shotting every enemy with her gun.

[-] CrawlMarks@hexbear.net 2 points 1 week ago

How is soulframe coming along? I want to like warframe but the run and gun doesn't appeal to me.

[-] barrbaric@hexbear.net 1 points 1 week ago

Haven't played it in over a year so couldn't really say, seems like it's very slowly coming along. Biggest news this year seems to be that they started selling the (extremely overpriced) founder's packs lol.
