The state doesn't just have the right to charge the ICE officer. It has the obligation to charge him.

[-] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 4 points 2 months ago

I truly hope they took him into custody right away. They did, right?

“ICE agents do not have absolute immunity.”

That this needs to be stated explicitely is so sad.

It’s so stupid. People like JD Vance are so stupid. They don’t even consider that they could spin this as a bad event, and the shithead should be prosecuted and that their ICE actions are valid. I don’t agree with ICE and I’m not defending them. But if ICE is valid, then it’s valid that they could fuck up too. It would help their cause to run things in a less toxic way.

But this is asking for nuance from this administration. They're a bunch of maladjusted sociopaths. And to reiterate: I’m not defending ICE.

It's one of a few weaknesses they have. The whole "stick to your guns" strong-and-tough-guy ideology makes it impossible to backtrack, quickly pivot, or even feign concern, to achieve a quick tactical victory. All that is tantamount to failure and admitting defeat. Instead, they have to either build a massive smokescreen, lie their pants off, or dig even deeper into an already cursed situation. Then there's tribalism, making it impossible to publicly throw their own goons under the bus. It's a stupid and weirdly consistent mindset (i.e. lawful evil), but when it comes to this cabal and their supporters, it's kind of their whole deal.

[-] howl2@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 months ago

Their cause and purpose is terror and psychological abuse. For that reason they are already on point for serving their cause.

[-] ZombieMantis@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

No shit, Sherlock.

[-] xenomor@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

From the released footage, it appears that the murderer, Jonathan Ross, was holding his phone camera and filming the entire murder. That is critical evidence that the state needs to have to either prosecute or potentially exonerate Jonathan Ross. I’m not sure why more of the reporting on this murder isn’t covering that detail. Again, murderer Jonathan Ross is in possession of critical murder evidence that documents a fuckin’ murder.

[-] dudinax@programming.dev 2 points 2 months ago

prediction: Lost in a phone upgrade.

[-] zombyreagan@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 months ago

The cell phone footage was leaked. I've seen it and u can clearly see the lady training the wheel away from him

[-] Manjushri@piefed.social 1 points 2 months ago

...the murderer, Jonathan Ross, was holding his phone camera and filming the entire murder.

Is that confirmed somewhere? Just holding his phone with a camera app open isn't enough. ICE has an app that uses a photograph to supposedly tell whether or not someone is a citizen. If there is evidence he recorded the incident for any reason, then I would think that that would be clear evidence of premeditation.

[-] athatet@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 months ago

The cell phone video that the murderer was taking has been posted on the internet.

[-] Manjushri@piefed.social 2 points 2 months ago

Damn. He was clearly planning or shooting someone there. Mother fucker was taking video to jerk off to later.

[-] paraphrand@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

He should be prosecuted for destroying evidence.

Edit: surprisingly, his video was released around the time I posted this.

[-] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 1 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Christchurch much?

BTW we have plenty video of everything, there really is no question. I recommend this 404media article.

[-] W98BSoD@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 months ago

I think they lost the .is domain.

I know this link worked for me: https://archive.ph/Dl0ST

[-] FenderStratocaster@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Ok. So, like...what are they waiting for? If I shoot someone on video, I'd already be in prison.

[-] silence7@slrpnk.net 2 points 2 months ago

Jonathan Ross took off right after the shooting. Actually putting him in prison means locating his lair and actually arresting him, which may be difficult if a ton of armed feds are there protecting him.

[-] jjagaimo@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 months ago

Charge any feds with obstruction of justice

Well hey, maybe members of his immediate family can be located and used to “entice” him out of hiding in some fashion. It’s a tactic ICE is using after all, so it’s fair to use it against them.

[-] Mirshe@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

Yeah, I'd be willing to bet he's been flown out on an ICE plane to Texas or Florida or DC. You'd need to involve federal law enforcement in actually arresting him if he's fled the state, and that will go over like a wet fart with the department who keeps saying he's done literally nothing wrong.

[-] MacEnvy@lemmy.world 0 points 2 months ago

Do you want them to successfully prosecute him, or do you want them to make a big show and then not have enough documented evidence with full chain of custody and have their prosecution fail? Your indict first and investigate later idea will only serve to let him off.

It’s been 36 hours. Take a breath and let them work. They’re going to get there and they’re going to do it the right way.

[-] FenderStratocaster@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

The guy murdered someone, he didn't break into a Subway and steal the register and a cold cut trio.

[-] danc4498@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

Robert Bennett, a veteran lawyer in Minneapolis who has worked on hundreds of federal police misconduct cases during his 50-year career

FYI for anybody else that saw “misconduct expert” and said wtf is that.

[-] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 months ago

Yeah, he's the GOOD kind of misconduct expert, not an expert on committing misconduct like cops tend to be.

[-] Rentlar@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 months ago

Step 1. Murderer uploads the Minnesota state case to a federal one.

Step 2. Trump pardons the murderer.

[-] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 0 points 2 months ago

Nah, it's even worse: the FBI refuses to even charge the murderer so that a pardon won't even be necessary, while illegally withholding the evidence from the state authorities so they can't conduct the parallel investigation that they're entitled to.

It's federal fascism all the way down.

[-] Soulphite@reddthat.com 0 points 2 months ago

Even worse that Just Dance Vance just gave ICE absolute immunity. This is fucking ridiculous.

[-] athatet@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 months ago

I didn’t realize the Joikin Dapenuts Vance was able to make people immune to gunfire. Incredible.
